External Water tanks

    Hi folks,

We sank a well about 8 years ago and have really bad sulphur smelling water.
On a review of the current system one of the companies suggested putting the tanks outside - ours are currently in the shed. Has anyone else done this?
It would mean the sulphur smell would be aerated outside, and the tanks would be fitted with lids - but what about frost, etc?

Have you had your water tested to find out the route cause of the smell???

Do you have a filter on the incoming water?

I accidentally solved this issue once. It was on a deep well that had an extremely strong smell of sulphur from the water and a lot of very expensive solutions were proposed. We also had tiny black particles of what appeared to be lignite in the water, so I started by installing a good-sized filter with a disposable woven filter element.

To my surprise the sulphur smell was being carried on the lignite particles and filtering them out also removed the sulphur.

I would suggest trying this first. A lot cheaper than moving the tanks.

Its been tested every year and they're saying its because the well was sunk so deep.

We also have the black particles in the water and have a system in place in the shed thats supposed to stop all of this. Its not working properly in my opinion.

This http://www.aquaeuro.ie/Details_eu.asp?ProductID=719 seems similar to the filter I used, but a tinted bowl is a very dumb idea, as you need to be able to see what is going on as the filter element clogs up. I can't see an Irish site with one, but this is the type I would suggest.
