Generally 4:1 carbs to protein for recovery. Everyone is different what works for me might not be the right thing for you.

Directly after a run I usually have a glass of chocolate milk for protein and half a packet of fig rolls (79c tesco finest) for carbs, read somewhere fig rolls are great after a run. Usually have a good lunch then once I'm showered.

After a tempo/interval/long I'll always have a bottle of lucozade sport but just a pint of water after a regular run.

I just head straight for the tap and down a half pint glass of water.

Usually have another one or two after that but drinking them more .. casually :D

I don't usually eat before a run so whatever dinner I had planned for the day comes afterwards.

Eat foods you like, get a good mixture of carbs and protein and rehydrate. Try to avoid 'out of a bottle' miracle recovery drinks.
My favs are scrambled egg or beans on toast with a big mug of tea in the winter or a tuna sandwich and a pint of milk in the summer.
If you are going to be stuck travelling back from a run location try and have something within 30mins, pint of milk and cheese sandwich for example.

If I'm doing a session at lunch time at work, I'll make some hummus in the morning (5 minute job) and eat it with a bagel after the session. Protein, carbs, fats, spices to help with inflammation. It's all good. Plus it's damn tasty..

You don't get any benefit eating "straight" away or within 30 mins.

Except that you won't be hungry and thirsty for an extra 30 minutes.

If 5 k counts as a good long run then a bowl of Special K works well for me!

Aren't they the same? Never found any red berries in the one I buy!

Damn tasty, and a great recovery "meal."
