Dormer icebox

Hello everyone. To start I'm not great at diy but my bedroom dormer is an icebox so I decided to cut a small hole above the radiator to see what was behind.

There's a block wall at the back of the radiator, some beams, the roof and not much in the form of insulation between.

Does any bright spark know how to insulate this space? The beams come up to the wall so the space is compartmentalised at the top where my hole is and I can't go through the wall.I would have to make a hole between every beam space.

    Any comments really appreciated.

I'd consider insulated plaster board on the inside.

Hi rebel, I bought some spray foam and layered it on the back of the plaster on top of the block wall but it is only the gap between 2 eaves covered.

Do u think I'd have to take the radiator off the wall to put up the plasterboard?

I'm astounded at the space and how little insulation there is.I also have a bay window below this dormer which is freezing too. I can see through the hole that the dormer ceiling isn't insulated.

Might be easier to pay a cavity wall professional to spray in some beads. :(

    Research airtightness

Depending on the pipework you might be able to shift the radiator out the couple of cm needed to get the board behind it.

I turned my garage into a room. Insulated board on all walls and ceiling. Works a treat. Not too hard to put heavy lining paper over it and paint.

    Will do.

Airtightness is the fundamental building property that impacts infiltration (the uncontrolled inward leakage of outdoor air through cracks, interstices or other unintentional openings of a building, caused by pressure effects of the wind and/or stack effect).

Is this connected to a house with a cold attic?

    Especially dormers!
