Hi, I'm looking at buying an old house. Cottage type fixer upper, but at least liveable while work was done. On planning and permissions.... Does a house pre 1964 need planning permission for extensions or roof layout. Is there any websites that has any info. I did see a house a few years ago and looked up the planning for it. It looked like a green field site with nothing on it. Would this not mean someone could attach an extension and not apply for planning. Or even knock the whole lot down and start a new planning application for a new house????? Thanks in advance for the info.

Yes. All houses subject to exemption limits need planning for extension.
To knock a house and rebuild requires planning and you will then have to build it to current building regulations.
