The M word

BBC reports today that Harvard University has decided to ban the M word in any of its academic awards. This, they say, is because of its slavery connotations (like the N word).

As the awarding of an M.A. degree has, to the best of my knowledge no connection to slavery, and indeed long predates white on black slavery, I fail to see any connection, except that the M term was used to show slave ownership in a completely different context. Its only a matter of time until other universities and the politically correct establishment follow this lead and it becomes impossible to use the word anymore.

Just thinking of the M words that we will no longer be allowed to use..
SchoolM, Mcraftsman, Mmariner, Mbator, Mcylinder etc etc...

I thought they were just no longer referring to a person as the "house master"?

Im sure the anti PC brigade will be here shortly with the pitchforks and torches anyway.

This is starting to get really bloody silly at this stage. In the same campus the Law courses often have to deal with these muppets too, where for some the word "violate", in the context of "violate the law" is seen as "triggering". If someone is that sensitive they should be seeing a psychiatrist and getting help, they shouldn't be pandered to.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Harvard is going to use the name "faculty dean" instead of "house master"

I think I'll get angry. I obviously haven't read the context of the story. I'll completely misrepresent it. I'll repeat it to others without actually knowing what I'm talking about. But god damn will I be angry.

I always assumed the term Master of 'whatever' in university degrees refered to being especially skilled in that subject. Maybe I'm missing something, but what exactly has that to do with slavery?

    Starting ?

It started mid 90s and hasn't yet stopped.

That's possible because its powered by public smugitude and holier than thou-ness.
