Races for charity / with charity partners.

Topical one given the recent addition of the sponsored forum for the Virgin Media night run and the limited discussion within about the races charity status. There was a mod instruction within that if other races were to be discussed they should be discussed on the main forum.

I propose a thread to discuss charity partners / races. If you know of an event taking place and have clear accurate and concrete information about the donations being made then let the forum know.

Charity races and charity partners can be very very different. Personally I hate to see races with a charity partner that is getting sod all from the organisers of commercial races. Especially if they use ambiguous language and phrasing to mask themselves as a charity race. IMO charity races should be donating a large portion if not all of their fees / profits to the charity partner.

I can personally speak about two:

The Virgin Media Night Run 22/05/2016

Donating nothing from the entrance fee or profits to their charity partner (source: the forum here) They are saying their staff will raise money for the charity and encourage runners to fundraise. I'm not a fan of this arrangement at all personally.

    Jog For A Dog 5k 17/04/2016

A true charity fund raiser where ALL of the entry fee is donated to the charity with the running costs of the event covered by generous sponsors.

Post up your club fund raisers etc, post up true charity fund raisers and also call out those races that are not donating or donating very little ...

Our club race is organised for the benefit of the club first and foremost but there is a charity partner every year.

Last year Fighting Blindness received a cheque for €3000

This year's charity is ISCC (Irish Society for Colitis and Crohn's Disease)

My first half marathon was like this. I raised a lot of money for special olympics and it turned me off charity races after that.
