    Hi all,

Have a 2l TDI PD170 engine that is approaching 200,000 miles with a full service history from new. Injectors were done under recall, clutch and flywheel were done about 70k miles ago, timing belt and water pump were done by the book, DPF deleted, swirl flaps blanked and EGR bypassed and oil and filter have been done every 10-15k kms.

Other then regular services is there anything else that may deserve attention? I have asked about changing the oil in the gear box but I've been told they a are "sealed for life" item that doesn't need changing.....

There is still lots of power, loads of poke with no smoke so I've no interest in changing it......not that it's worth anything to change!! The only thing is it's a wee bit hard to start on a cold morning but again this maybe a slightly weak battery.

    Any pointers welcome!!

    Cheers!

I hear the same about the gearbox in my golf however I got it changed in a gearbox center for circra 50 quid, I think it's not a bad idea IMO to change it. If you haven't done it already I would advise doing the fuel filter. Replaced mine last weekend and after 157k it was absolutely full of silt! I knew it would be bad but not that bad!

I often find it very amusing to compare oil change intervals recommended by the gearbox (exp. Getrag, Aisin etc) - usually around 120kkm, and the car maker - "does not need servicing"...

Get some new glow plugs and it will start like a dream.

Best thing I have done to Focus.

I suppose having a good look for rust would be good, and perhaps some preventive rust treatment underneat might do no harm.

Would be a pity to potentially need some welding work in the near future as it sounds like a great car.

Silt? Was your fuel filter completely black? Mine blackens filters and I think it's down to the seals in the tandem pump, awaiting a response from a garage on replacing the pump and seals....

Good call, I never thought of plugs as I've never seen the light on nor have they given hassle

There's not a spot of corrosion underneath, it was up on a ramp recently as the back box is a bit perished and I was looking for any sign of holes. I also had the sill covers off when I was fitting mud flaps, thing is perfect! I really love the car, I'd love to find a drivers seat but the Altea FR is rare here and very few of the Leon FR's have ended up in the breakers yards!
