Anyone playing this? Its a spiritual successor to Harvest Moon which none of the recent versions have met with much praise. Seems from all the hype and looking at the steam reviews this has gotten it just right and was also incredibly made by only one guy. Apparently theres also plans for 4 player co-op ibn the not oo distant future too.

Im very tempted but with the division next week am worried about losing interest and forgetting about it and wanna devote some dedicated time to this as looks like its a serious time sink.

Was waiting for someone to start this thread! Plan on picking this up this evening, never played a Harvest Moon game before so I'm really looking forward to it. I'll give ye an update later! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,905 ✭✭✭Noxin

Bought it at the weekend on a whim. Figured to myself I'll probably get an hour out of it.
4 hours later I was still playing. Funny little addictive game. Not something I'll constantly run straight to but I will keep going back at random times. (namely when hungover)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,516 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

Well I gave in and bought it, the best way I can describe my first 3 hours was "just one more day then I'll go to bed" I'm not kidding this is civ esque with how time disappears

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,899 ✭✭✭megaten

It looks amazing but it kinda feels like something I'd rather play on a portable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 455 ✭✭Xyo

Yeah, I picked this up last night played it for about 4 hours. I was enjoying it but it really took off when I found all the combat side of it now i'm really hooked :)

Highly recommend for anyone that likes that terraria/starbound style of game with a little farmville on the side :)

Im watching streams all day, just cannot wait to to get home and completely redesign the basic setup I have at the moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,516 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

This game is slowly taking over my life, literally cannot stop thinking about getting home to play it, theres a very good farm planner here for anyone interested https://stardew.info/planner

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 320 ✭✭iggyigauna89

I know exactly how ya feel! I've spent the day at work trawling thru the excellent wiki in preparation for more farming activities when I get home!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,818 ✭✭✭Lyaiera

Someone bought this for me yesterday. I'm not a big gamer anymore. I kind of fell away from it during my twenties when games wouldn't hold my interest. I clocked up five hours on this yesterday. I haven't done that in a decade.

At the moment I'm focusing on the community centre, and making friends as well as my crops. And of course if I have a few spare minutes I'll go fishing, or bash some rocks.

I couldn't sleep last night. Around 1am I got out of bed, 45 minutes later (or so I thought) it was 3am. Great game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,814 ✭✭✭TPD

Been playing this myself the last few days. Same as Lyaiera, my gaming sessions have dropped off dramatically since late teens / early twenties. I've put about 14 hours into this in the few days I've been able to play it.

Just got into my first winter, and I'm taking a very zen approach to things. Didn't really put much effort into the community centre in year 1 so will look in on that a bit more.

Picked this up today. Only played an hour and half so far but really enjoying it. Seems to really nail all the great parts or Harvest Moon. I can see a lot of time going into this game over the next few weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 320 ✭✭iggyigauna89

So . . went to bed at 11 last night, couldn't get to sleep. "I'll just do one or two days on the farm, nice and relaxing, put me in the mood to sleep" . . . . 4 hours later . . . :( "Holy crap I have work in 4 hours!"

This is reaching Civilization levels of addiction with me. So much to do in it.

So what is the jist of this game?

    Farmville fleshed out?

FarmVille was just harvest moon stripped down to min/max farming, this is harvest moon expanded into so much more

I bought this game a week ago but have only played the first day. I'm on the second day but I'm just not sure what do be doing. I got a fishing rod and planted some herbs but there are no obvious prompts on what to do.

    Am I missing something obvious?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

This would be excellent on a Tablet.

I've reached Autumn in the first year. Loving it so far!

I focus mainly on crops. Watering them is such a pain in the arse. I upgraded the watering can but it still takes ages to water 100+ crops every day.
I'd love to craft a few sprinklers but I can't get my hands on any iron ore. I've just reached level 40 of the cave. How much lower do I need to go before iron ore starts appearing?

This really is a fantastic game. Nice and relaxing, but at the same time the clock and energy bar has me hurrying along.
I'm starting to focus a little more on the community centre.
I haven't done any socializing other than the seasonal fairs/dances etc. There's nothing really drawing me into the town other than questing and buying seeds.

I only go questing when i know it's going to rain the following morning. I can ignore watering the crops and head straight up to the cave first thing in the morning. Do people try to descend the cave as fast as possible? I find myself wanting to clear every piece of rock first before moving down a level.

I haven't done a lot of fishing yet. Probably because I'm not very good at the fishing mini game.

Dying to get home to play some more.

Do you know if you hold down the button it waters three tiles in a row when upgraded? The game doesn't explain this to you.

    50

But the first level sprinkler is almost worthless IMHO.

Spring year 2 and ive miscalculated a bit as I use up all my energy and then some simply from watering my crops, need to get some sprinklers going asap!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Started late on Friday and I'm near the end of Summer in Year 1.

Died in the mine for the first time last night. I could see the ladder in the distance, I had no energy (so I was walking slowly), I had low health, and a feckin' swarm started. :o

    Same thing happened to me.
And i lost my sword in the process! The mine is a hell of a lot harder when you're attacking slime with a pickaxe!

Great interview with Eric Barone (the developer). Delighted for him, to be fair. Chalk another one up for the indie developers.
Can't wait to see what new content he adds.

Near the end of Spring year 2, things going very well, I am in the middle of the 2nd house upgrade, have enough sprinklers to make watering every morning pretty much nonexistant and am engaged!!!

Once summer rolls around and I can setup a good sprinkler design I wil get back to finishing the community centre and do some fishing!

    Ugggghhhh i hate fishing!

Really enjoying this. Mostly avoiding wikis etc and just doing my own thing. Got a small farm nothing OTT and focusing more on the mines at the moment. Very addictive though as mentioned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,516 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

Finished the mines and am working getting maxed out coop and barn so I can get the neccessary materials to finish off the pantry in the community centre so I can then have a greenhouse for winter.

Also wifey just announced we will be having a baby soon, looking forward to putting them to work.

Have made several runs into the skull caves which are pretty difficult.

Tehehe "It's strange, but the taste reminds you of Boobies"

Totally forgot I listed that as my favourite thing :D Nice to know I haven't grown up since my FF7 days of "Hey, aren't you Sexy?" Why yes yes I am!

For the record my four chicks in the game are Piglet, Duck, Goatly, and Piglet 2

The 1.1 update is out in the next month. Here is an interview that PC Gamer did with Eric Barone at Pax West.

New starting farm types (each focusing on different disciplines), new end game content, new things to make, new buildings, and new relationships.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,528 ✭✭✭ShaShaBear

Havent gotten a full chance to give this my undivided attention but I do love the concept. Agree with a previous poster that I think it would be immense on a tablet. I think I've just gotten so used to playing that kind of game on some form of handheld!

The massive 1.1 patch is out now. New features (not including balance changes or bug fixes):
    Changelog

    - Shane and Emily are now available to marry. They each have new events, music, and more!
    - Spouses now have a unique outdoor area and behavior on the farm.
    - You can now choose from 5 different farm maps at character creation. Each map is focused on a different skill area.
    * Standard Farm - The original Stardew Valley farm.
    * Riverland Farm - Lots of water, good for fishing.
    * Forest Farm - Foraging opportunities and a unique weed that always drops mixed seeds.
    * Hill-top Farm - Has a small mineral deposit from which ores spawn, including a unique geode-bearing ore.
    * Wilderness Farm - Monsters spawn at night.
    - "Shed" building... An empty room that can be decorated, filled with kegs, etc.
    - "Mill" building... Can be used to turn wheat into flour and beets into sugar overnight.
    - A new quest that can be started after the Community Center or JojaMart quest arc is complete. The new quest results in a new "magical construction" feature available from the Wizard's Tower. The new quest is triggered when you enter the Railroad area.
    - Added several new locations that are related to the above quest. "Junimo Hut" building (Magical Construction). Junimos will harvest crops within a certain distance of the hut, instantly transporting the harvest back to the hut for you to gather at your convenience.
    - "Earth Obelisk" building (Magical Construction). A permanent warp totem to the mountains.
    - "Water Obelisk" building (Magical Construction). A permanent warp totem to the beach.
    - "Gold Clock" building (Magical Construction). Prevents weeds from spawning and fences from decaying on your farm.
    - You can now move your buildings via Robin's construction menu.
    - New house upgrade from Robin that adds a cellar to your house and teaches you the "cask" crafting recipe. In the cellar, you can use Casks to age cheese and alcohol, increasing their quality.
    - "Iridium-star" level quality is now attainable for goods, fruit, and forage items (if you have the botanist perk). Iridium-star level items have twice the value of normal items.
    - NPC's now appreciate quality level in gifts, but it only has an effect on gifts they "like" or "love".
    - Added Coffee, a spring/summer crop, and Coffee Bean. The bean acts as the produce and the seed, similar to sunflowers.
    - 5 Coffee beans can be added to a Keg to make coffee.
    - Honey can be placed in a keg to make mead.
    - Void eggs can be placed in mayonnaise machines to make void mayonnaise.
    - 2 new fish, "Void Salmon" and "Slimejack"
    - You can now choose to color your chests with one of 20 color options.
    - Evil Shrines, where you can make offerings in exchange for dark magic.
    - Divorce. You can file from a little book in mayor's house.
    - You can now wallpaper the little hallways in your upgraded house.
    - When you beat Journey Of The Prairie King, you can now start over in a harder mode, keeping your upgrades and coins.
    - 2 new "Lost Books"
    - Krobus now sells a "Return Scepter"... a tool which acts as a permanent warp totem to the farm.
    - Giving someone a gift on their birthday will never make your spouse jealous.
    - Pierre now sells a "Catalogue" furniture item that can be used for unlimited free access to all wallpapers and floors.
    - Robin now sells a "Furniture Catalogue" furniture item that can be used for unlimited free access to nearly all furnitures.
    - If you’ve found the Galaxy Sword, you can now buy another from Marlon.
    - You can also buy the Galaxy Dagger and Galaxy Hammer.
    - Slime balls have a chance to drop petrified slime
    - Added a graphics option to display “sharper” stack number digits.
    - You can once again plant fruit trees around the edge of the Greenhouse interior.

I gave this a few minutes of my time a while back and found it quite enjoyable but adult mammy life took over.
Feeling like I should really launch it back up, but on the other hand I feel like I'd like to keep my kids :D

Game can get highly addictive. Was cut off from broadband last weekend so decided to jump back into this.
I played an insane amount of hours from Friday - Sunday seeing as I had little else to do. Great little game when you just want to chill out.
Although the mines at 90+ can start to get a bit stressful :P

Gave it a go after getting in the humble bundle...

I didn't think it was my kind of game. I played Harvest Moon on the gameboy as a child but thought it was poor enough and devoid of features. I still played it tons because I didn't know better. The idea of a farming simulator didn't really excite me to a huge degree.

Wow this is addicting. I thought I'd become completely jaded with single player games but I have to echo what everyone is saying here, I almost want to call in sick to work and binge this for a few days. I'm mostly staying away from wikis and want to discover it on my own. I have no interest in finding a spouse though. There is something about courting in video games that just doesn't sit right with me. I'm currently role playing the anti social farmer who sleeps non-stop. I'll probably get into that more as time goes own but right now there's so much other stuff I want to do.

I do wish there was a slight multiplayer aspect to it. I would like to be able to visit my friends farm to see how they are getting on. Nothing more than that. I'm very competitive by nature :pac:

    "Partyjungle Equipped: Iridium Petrol Can"

Was multiplayer not added in the last patch no? I must be mistaken.

I'm not really an achievement hunter anymore so once I got to the stage my farm was taking in 500-600k gold in a month, and I didn't have space for more animals or Wine Kegs I lost interest.

Though I did really enjoy my 30hrs from it.

Have many played past 30 or 40hrs?

How did you get that much per month ?

Huge blueberry and Strawberry farm, turn all gold quality berries into wine. I have like 120 Kegs running at any given time, and a heap of Crystallariums spawning diamonds.

I ended up with more berries than I could turn to wine so I sold about half of them.

Mayonnaise and cheese farming is also quite profitable.

It's more fun when you don't just max profit like that, then the game is just over. Just build your farm however and enjoy it.
