Size of a tv for single bedroom

Hi everyone, I'm thinking of getting a tv for my bedroom. It's a single room and isn't massive so therefore would not want the tv to be massive! I want to mount it to the wall and then be able to pull it out when I watch it, if you get me.

I was talking to a friend of mine who is big into TV's and he said to get a 32 inch tv but I think this would be very big. I wouldn't be more than 2.5/3ft away from it when watching it so, what advice do you have?

    Is 32 inch too big?

    Thanks

Not in the slightest, I started with a 28" in the the bedroom but currently have a 40". Found it difficult to shrink down from a 65" in the main room. Easy way to gauge it would to use a broad sheet newspaper and put a page where you are thinking to put it.

A modern 32" TV is like the equivalent of the old school 14" "portable". They really are small and compact these days, largely because there's not much bulk outside of the screen itself (really thin frame/bezel, etc).
I'd say 32" is perfect for a bedroom.

You say you're going to be 2.5/3ft away from screen when watching it, I'd be concerned at being this close to a 32" screen, I'd recommend you go to a TVs store, find a 32" screen and stand that close to it and judge for yourself. TVs in "big box" stores are usually set far to high in terms of brightness, contrast etc to look vibrant in an area full of other TVs under usually bright lighting so it wouldn't be the most representative test but it would give you a good idea if you will see too much of the picture structure, pixels etc. I have a 32" Samsung in the kitchen and here's no way I'd watch it from 2.5ft away, I appreciate that's a personal opinion, but I'd advise you to check for yourself.

Maybe I'm underestimating the distance I'd be from the tv.....! Like, I'd be watching it from my bed obviously but the tv would be on the wall to the right of my bed and it would swing out then on a bracket.....I don't think I'd be too close to it....

Thanks everyone else for the advice too! At least I know that a 32 inch wouldn't be too big. There aren't a lot of options on where to put the tv cos one wall has built in wardrobes and then there is a big window on another side. I'll have to think on it!

A 32" would be small. I think a 40" is perfect for a box room especially if its wall mounted.

We have a 32 inch in our living room (a flat screen) and it's pretty big to me, so a 40 inch sounds huge for a single bedroom! I think I might stick with the 32 inch....

It's amazing what you get used to. To me a 40 is standard size. My brother has a 32" on his desk, used as a TV and a PC monitor he can only sit about 2 feet away from it due to space. There is another 3 40s in the house so we are just used to that size. The 32 looks tiny to me now.

I had a 40 in my old box room and it was great for TV while lying in bed.

    Whatever works for you really.
