RA when single

I'm applying for RA as a single but I live in a 2 bedroom apartment. At the moment there is nobody in the second bedroom but that will likely change soon as I can no longer afford the rent alone. However in filling out the form I noticed the rates for my council area as being €520 for a single person but €300 for someone in a house share situation. So it seems renting out the spare room would end up costing me money. If I apply with a two bed apartment with only one bedroom occupied how will they treat this? I've lived here for 6 years and it is very much my home and I don't want to move, even if I did a one bed is going to cost me more than what I'm currently paying for the 2 bed.

Also my landlord has expressed a desire to get onto the RAS scheme or some similar long term arrangement. I am okay with this too. How would I go about it after I've been assessed for housing need, is there any application form me and my landlord need to get?

One thing to remember is you don't actually get 520 pm you have to take away your own contribution to the rent i believe you would only be entitled to 400 pm .

For Ras you would need to be in receipt of rent supplement for 18 months before applying

Another thing to remember is there is a set amount you can be paying, so if the rate says 520 your rent must be below that. It's not a case of you living wherever you like and topping up the payment.
