Pain in crotch

    Hi

    Sorry if this is too much information, but I think I pulled a muscle in my crotch/groin area.

    Think it happened turning over in bed.

    Now everytime i get up from sitting down, its v painful to walk, and specially when I lean on my right leg.

    Im 30 weeks pregnant and due to see my consultant this week so i'll ask him

    Anyone had this happen and does it go away?


    Ta from a very painful pregnant lady.......

    Unfortunately I think this is pretty common during pregnancy especially in the later stages. There is a lot of downward pressure on the pubic bone and pelvis in general and the relaxin produced by your body means that all the area is looser and more prone to injury.
    I'd recommend discussing physiotherapy with your consultant, getting a support belt to wear when you're out and about as it helps to hold the pelvis together, apply heat to the area and wear sensible shoes (coming from someone who wore her runners to work today because they're just too comfy and supportive to give up for proper shoes right now). Also when you're sitting down and getting up from sitting and getting dressed manouver yourself like you're an old lady. Means you'll move slowly and carefully and it helps trust me.

    I was hoping there would be a quick fix :)

    yes I'm wearing trainers everywhere, i think heels would be the end of me...

    Already walking like an old lady cos that's the only way I can, hopefully a support belt will help, I'm getting one later today.

    Unfortunately giving birth was the ultimate fix for me. The belt is wonderful though, the one I have I got from the Physio Dept in the Coombe and its so good that when I realised I left for work without it this morning I went back for it. It was well worth being a little late for.!.

    Can you get a physio appointment with a physio that specialises in women's health? Even just one appointment to check the alignment of your hips?

    I bought the belt myself on last preg and I found out since that you should only wear it if your hips have been checked to be in alignment. On last pregnancy mine weren't but I didn't know til after I gave birth (when in-house physio on labour ward checked them for me). Apparently if your hips are out of alignment the belt makes the pain worse.

    Google SPD you might have it. If it is SPD you should avoid leaning on one leg ever, keep both feet firmly on the ground. Sit down to get dressed (socks, undies etc) and undressed. Don't do the whole balancing on one leg while putting a sock/shoe on the other, sit down for all that.

    I have been back to see my consultant and it looks like my baby is measuring quiet big approx 2 weeks ahead so this is putting extra pressure on my hips and that general area...


    I have started wearing a support band and that has been a huge help, heopfully it will keep me going until d day :)

    Is it SPD you have? Can be really sore, usually goes within days of giving birth.
