Diseqc switch query

Hi folks, a guy asked me to have a look at his setup later as he has lost signal on one of his 2 dishes. I installed a sky dish for him a year or 2 ago and I figured it probably moved in the wind but he confirmed this was not the case as he switched a cable from his Arabsat dish and its fine, so this indicates a cable / connection issue. Assuming the cable has developed a fault on the 'house side', running a replacement cable is not an option. If the fault is outside, it'll be an easy fix but failing this, would adding a diseqc switch be the best solution ?

And if so, is a full rescan required on both dishes or can the switch be inserted/configured without the need to rescan ?

If there isn't a DiSEqC switch there already, how is the receiver selecting which dish to use?

Or if there are actually 2 receivers, 1 connected to each dish, what do you think a DiSEqC switch is going to do WRT solving your problem?

It may be the easiest solution, not necessarily the best though.
It all depends on his setup really.
Is it a dual tuner setup?
If so, just adding a diseqc switch will give him access to both his dish's on the one receiver but he'll loose the ability to record from one dish feed while watching the other (redundant tuner) unless he has additional feeds to the dish's.
And if so, is a full rescan required on both dishes or can the switch be inserted/configured without the need to rescan ?
Probably wouldn't need a rescan, just need to adjust the tuner settings to accommodate the diseqc switch.
Need more info on his setup really to be of any help.
