I made inquiries about the reefer - like a fool

I didn't think Irish were so closed minded - particularly in the west.

You'd swear I asked them where the nearest black mass was being conducted.

"No man, I dunno" - looks over my shoulder like he's expecting the swat team to come crashing through the door.

Two chicks behind a bar, basically stood there with their mouths open when I popped the question, like I'd just walked through the door and declared I was a convicted rapist who'd just escaped mountjoy.

This is "the herb" we're talking about here.

Is not legal by those neanderthals in parlement, but to the common folk - and they still regard it as some kind of "illicit" substance?

People - are you for real?

A sad day, when I come to realize how backward the Irish mentality remains to be.

    Sad sad sad.

I don't think being taken aback about being asked by a random stranger as to how to obtain an illegal substance (which it is, whether you agree with that or not) is either Irish or backwards or closed-minded.

Reefer. You've smoked too much OP.

Have you considered the possibility that they weren't close minded, but actually didn't have the first ****ing clue what you were jabbering about? I mean... were you high at the time? Are you high now?

Ye can talk all ye want about weed but there is nothing out there at all now. Must be the biggest drought in the history of the Irish state.

Great to see another example of how a publicly funded education is completely wasted on some people.

To the streets with you and your broom. Snap snap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,547 ✭✭✭Titzon Toast

So you just walked up to random strangers and asked them if they had "any reefer man?"
They probably thought you were a Yellowpack, straight out of Templemore and looking for your first "burst"...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 324 ✭✭kurtainsider

"No man" ..... "Two chicks" ....."the herb"

Maybe the "chicks" were dumbfounded because they thought that they had somehow stepped through a portal back to the 1970's.

What a joke, the biggest drought in the history of the state? You can have anything you want delivered to your door as quickly and easily as buying it on Ebay these days, it's a flood not a drought.

I didn't know Thomas Pynchon posted on boards.

Do yourself a favour and get a new hobby, get your head in the game and drop that 70s lingo.. You're not on an episode of kojak. If anyone spoke to me like that I'd assume they're a guard who's near retirement..

Did you ever get a headache cat ? pharma drugs. I remember solpadeine was an over the counter drug for pain but so many folk were addicted to it and it was then only on prescription. drugs are drugs and the majority of a nation still takes them.

Jeez... as they used to say back in the day...Grow yer own dope, plant a College Graduate.'

(Not recommended. Please don't try this at home)

The weed is just a herb plant of which has been here long before we have on this planet.

when I was younger I had long hair, and I used to be sick of people asking me where they could get a bit of smoke, and I honestly didn't know where it could be found, and most of the time they didn't believe me.

Well you look at the difference. Most folk take pharma drugs of some kind every day and then you look at a plant of nature that has been here for millions of years naturally untouched by man, but the natural one is still illegal. Makes not a lot of sense does it.

A double major, Animated TV For Adults, and Nature Is Really Cool: Oceans and Shít. In first year he took What The Fcuk Is The Cat Looking At Me Like That For and Total Immersion in PS4.

Jeepers I'd love a smoke, been ages!

I was actually amazed last time I was in Ireland at how laid back the attitudes to weed were.

I was out in Clare towards the end of last year, and weed was everywhere. At one point I was out in the smoking area of a pub, with an old fella (at least late 60s) having a spliff across from me. A few more people came out and he passed it around to everyone. No one else batted an eyelid.

Natural doesn't mean safe, for example digitalis is derived from foxglove but it's got pretty unpleasant side effects unless it's indicated and given in the right dosage. Certain mushrooms are lethally poisonous, as are some flower bulbs.

There are decent arguments for legalising the herb, but it being natural isn't one of them.
