Mondeo Misfiring

I have an 06 Ford Mondeo 1.8 petrol with 170,000km on it
When driving it, it tends to shudder and the engine light comes on and starts flashing. I ran a diagnostic on it and cylinders 2 and 3 are misfiring.

I'v changed the coil pack as this seems to be a common fault. Checked the plugs, plug 2 and 3 had a very minor bit of oil on them.

I ran a compression test on it today and got:
    Cylinder 1: 150psi
    Cylinder 2: 175psi
    Cylinder 3: 175psi
    Cylinder 4: 55psi

Would anyone have a bit of insight on where I should go from here?

    Thanks

Did the shudder stop after you changed the coil packs?
It's possible the shudder come from cyl 4 not pulling its weight.
    Probably rings or valves.

No it didn't go away after I replaced it.

Would you mind explaining about the rings or valves, what action should be taken? Thank you

You are loosing g compression on cylinder 4. Have you noticed a loss of coolant or oil and clloant mixing together? Either your head gasket is gone or the rings on piston 4 have worn out.

this engine can suffer from burned valves, worn piston rings or both, neither is good news. Piston rings will make it uneconomic to repair. valves and timing chain would be 750 euro but might not solve your problem fully.

I be inclined to get a mechanic to give his opinion and if there is major engine work required be prepared to walk away and buy another car. (one not with a ford 1.8 engine)

How much oil are you burning ?

Its possible you have low compeession on cyl 4 because that is where your missfire is and the cylinder is washed with petrol try spraying a bit of freeing oil into the cylinder and then doing a compression.
