Electric power steering Opel Corsa

I have an 2002 Opel Corsa 1.2, i went to start it yesterday and it got hard to start, had to turn it over a few times. This hasn't happend before, it usually starts on the button without touching the accelerator pedal.
Anyway this time the EPS light stayed on in the dash and after looking at the manual its an electric power steering problem. After a quick "google" i disconnected the battery just to try if it would re set and also changed the 50 amp fuse for it in case it was something simple like that but no joy.
Does anyone have any ideas? If its an expensive fix obviously i'm not going to pour 500 plus into a 14 yr old corsa, thanks in advance.

If there is a battery issue, fix that first before worrying about the power steering. Chances are the 2 things are linked.
Have you tried starting it today?

It starts no bother at all, just turned the key a couple of hours ago and the EPS light is still on and no power steering. I only disconnected the battery yesterday to try to see could i re-set the fault. Might need someone to connect it to a diagnostic machine.

Don't know about this particular issue but I had a 2002 Opel Corsa and it was the worst car I have ever owned. Nothing but problems from the time I bought it. The list was endless. Head gasket finally went and I said goodbye.

I would get rid of it as quickly as possible.

I know they are not great cars alright, i bought it as a cheap runaround as i only live 3 miles from work. With no power steering its unsaleable and only worth scrap value but if its a cheap enough fix and its NCT'd till June and taxed till May then its worth about a grand.

Thanks very much to both guys who commented, power steering is fixed. I took out every fuse one by one and checked them with a meter and came across one 5 amp that was gone. According to the manual the power steering is off a large 50 amp fuse but i changed the little fuse anyway and it's working.
As the saying goes if you can't be good, be lucky. Fixed for 50 cent- result :)

No better feeling when you diagnose and solve a problem expecting it to be expensive and its nice and cheap :-)
