Burnout

I'm looking for a way beyond work burnout. It's been building for some time now and at the moment in somewhere in the middle of below productive, apathetic, tired, disinterested, detached and despondent not to mention impatient.

I have a course of study underway which gets little attention because by the time I get home and park the day Im exhausted mentally and some days a bit despairing. But I need this to have any hope of seeing a route out of the status quo and it's still a LONG way off a guarantee. Nothing Im doing gets the kind of attention it should get these days and that's making me anxious and irritated but on the other hand I have so little in the tank to give. The work itself, given that Ive been doing it for ten years has made me brain dead. I think at a lower level these days because it's how I spend my days in the job, challenged-but not in a good way- just challenged to make it through. There's no place else in this arm of the industry for me to go and I cant find real opportunities in the next sector up. Im highly qualified (once upon a time I had energy and drive not to mention a brain), widely experienced but flat and threading water.

I don't have superiors I can talk to or HR. I asked for a sounding board and chat with two friends lately and left both more frustrated as they projected their own content 'stuck-ness' onto my situation.

Tomorrow I have two bookings, that traditionally I would have been enthusiastic and eager to get stuck into. Im not though. Im tired, I dont care like I should and I dont know how to fix that.

People will compare to your own situation...that's human nature. They try to make it relatable. If you want somebody to talk to who will just massage your own take on things, I'd say go to a counsellor. They are good for sounding off too. They just kind of enable you to speak and structure the way you explain it to make it make sense.

I'm in the same boat as you. I made changes. I've now come to the conclusion that it's the whole career thing, not just any one job. Could be the same for you. Maybe you need an extended sabbatical. If you've been in the job for a long time can you ask for extended time off?

What about using a life coach or some impartial support like that?
