So the new revenue online service has a Form 12 for filling out your incomes, credits and expenses for the year. Is filling this out the same as filing the p21 balancing request on ROS.ie or do both have to be done now?

A electronic form 12 is a full tax return for those who either are obliged to file one or wish to use it to declare additional non paye income/claim additional reliefs which can't be accommodated using the normal PAYE Anytime facilities. Filling one out will generate a P21.

Requesting a P21 without doing anything else is just a computer check of your pay and tax details against the tax credit/rate band information Revenue had on file for you for a particular year. Usually they turn out as balanced unless you were over or under taxed for some reason.

So I should get my tax back soon without going through ROS. Just seemed to be taking a while after completing From 12 so I thought I might have to go the old route. Maybe I'm being audited.

A percentage of all claims are held for manual review.

I expected there might be an issue. I was down as having received money from DSP but I deleted it because I am paid through the job as normal when out sick and don't receive illness benefit as well as pay.

I left Ireland in October and submitted my Form 12 on Tuesday to claim back the excess tax I paid during 2015. Got my P21 balancing statement back this morning and turns out I'm due quite a tasty rebate. Anyone know how long it normally takes them to pay it into my account?

Out of curiosity, this is the first time I've ever done it and ROS says my Form 12 return for 2014 and 2013 is outstanding. I've no reason to believe I've over or underpaid tax in either of the years and the entirety of my income (except €42 of dividends that I forgot to declare originally, but subsequently updated and they told me they wouldn't chase me for it) was PAYE income. Do I need to or am I obliged to submit Form 12s for these years?

It takes about 3 working days for the refund to hit your bank account.

I think it says form outstanding for everyone. Bit confusing that.

    Hi guys,

as I've been made redundant in October 2016, would it be better to use the eForm 12 or the P21? I'm waiting for the P60 of my wife to go ahead....

    Many thanks
