Virgin Modem Mode with Netgear Nighthawk R7000

So I was hoping someone might have some advice on setting up my new Netgear Nighthawk R7000 with Virgin's Compal router they provided with the 360Mb package.

I set the Compal to Modem Mode (LED is Purple) and plugged the ethernet cable from port 4 (the port closest to the coaxial) straight into the Netgear's WAN.

When I boot up the Netgear and follow the Setup Wizard it fails to detect an internet connection.

I've tried manually setting it up (while letting the Netgear get details automatically wherever possible) but I haven't been able to connect at all.

Seriously concerned that I may have just bought a €200 paperweight.

    Any advice?

Connect a laptop in place of the Nighthawk. Then run
    ipconfig /all

And see if your IPv4 address is a public one or not (if you post it minus the last two digits then we can tell you).

If its getting a public then its a problem with the Netgears setup, if its not theres a good chance you're on DSLite and need to PM the VM reps here on boards to get it removed from your account.

       Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::29ba:dbc:XXXX:XXXX(Preferred)
       IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.72.XXX.XXX(Preferred) - NAT'd address

You're on DSLite and its confusing the netgear as it shouldnt get a private address via its WAN port.

PM Virgin Media reps with your acc details and ask to be given an IPV4 address again.

    Everything's resolved.

So I got in touch with the Virgin Reps and they disabled DS Lite.

I was getting an internet conenction then with the Compal in Modem Mode (purple LED) LAN4 conencted to the WAN on Netgear R7000.

One funny thing was that the Compal was still broadcasting a wifi network (Green LED wireless icon) which we could connect to as normal. I switched it back to Router Mode and disabled the DHCP server and it then rebooted without the wifi broadcasting.

Turned on our two xbox ones (after enabling Open NAT filter on the Netgear) and they both have an Open NAT and we can now play together without issues.

Thanks again for your help ED and to Brian from Virgin for sorting us out so quickly!
