Australia-how late can I leave booking ?

    Hi,
    I'm looking to go to aus on a holiday working visa in May of next year as thats when my masters finishes. I am planning on joining friends who are going in January. I want to know how late I can leave booking flights and getting visa before I go. I don't want to book it all 8 months in advance in case my friends decide they want to come home.
