Insurance Help

I'm 17, going on 18, with full licence.

I'm still undecided on my first car.
A diesel Golf or Bora can be bought cheaper for the price of a petrol one, while the petrol one is cheaper to insure.

Should I go for a diesel and pay more for insurance, will I save more money in fuel on a diesel?

Also anyone know companies that will definitely insure me as a named driver?

    Cheers!

The choice between petrol and diesel isn't that straightforward. A diesel will be a lot less forgiving of slack maintenance. You'll have to regularly swop out DPF, or risk losing your engine altogether. And what kind of driving will you be doing? If you're not going to be doing fairly regular longish distances petrol will probably be a better option.

Edit: Also. The 'named driver' scam? Don't bother.
