Any recommendations on the best broadband provider around the city (virgin/Eir/Sky)? Not really interested in TV but it looks like a TV/broadband package will work out the best. Thanks in advance!

Did you check the various compare sites?
    https://switcher.ie/broadband/

But in general a TV/BB is best as it's fibre and not using DSL phoneline

If you are considering Virgin Media (formerly UPC), have a look at the thread on the Talk to VM Forum regarding issues which many Virgin Media customers are having viewing Netflix:

Now that Virgin are putting their prices up, I'm going to leave them. I'm sick of their awful service and the fact you can't put their modem into bridge mode. I'll take the hit on speed, but does anyone know which providers' modems can be successfully bridged?

I'm thinking Vodafone is the top contender so far. Looking for BB/TV package. (Although.. maybe I should be thinking BB on its own and Saorview for TV.. opinions about that would be welcome too!)

If you want TV from eir or Vodafone you cannot bridge. You can DMZ but its not quite as clean.

Sky make bridging difficult but can be done. Vodafone and eir its easy. Magnet I dont know.

Cheers, so you're saying if you have TV from Vodafone you cannot bridge, but if you don't have TV you can?

Yep, and same with eir. The IPTV stream is multicast and only their hardware can register the set top boxes.

Damn. Thanks! What do you do if you want to use your own router to handle the connection and services (DDNS, port forwarding, VPN etc)? Virgin's cable modem (Ubee 3226; one of 3 they supply, they REFUSE to give me another) is totally hobbled by them and can't do anything described above. I just want to be able to have control over those things; don't actually care about bridge mode per se..

Placing your own third party router within a DMZ on the Ubee (if it has that option) should be enough.

Class, thanks. It doesn't.. Reason enough to go with another provider now that they're jacking up their prices (and giving me an out without having to pay a cancellation fee).
