I'm off to Iceland for a week later in the year and I'd like to rent a road bike to take a spin or two. I'm not interested in renting a hybrid or MTB.

I've made a few email enquiries but has anyone rented a bike in Iceland or have any recommendations?

    Where are you planning cycling?

I'll be about 100km from Reykjavik. I just want to fart about in the area. Maybe a couple of 50km spins. A two day rental will suffice.

Just wondering. Been there a few times and it never struck me as some where good to cycle. Pretty yes but very isolated.

I've done that ferry to the westfjords and then trecked to a town. Should have taken us 3/4 days to walk. Got caught in bad weather and lost a couple of days camping in the middle of no where with bottles of vodka and cans of beans the only thing we had left before finally getting a lift to our destination.

One night we camped by a hot spring. Got locked and hallucinated seeing all sort of things!

One of the best trips ever! Lovely part of the country but back then it woulndt have been suitable for a road bike

Was there last summer. Saw a good few cycling along the fjords in the west. Outer roads are pretty decent but there was always a strong wind blowing. Would love to do it. I'm sure you can rent somewhere on rejkavik. Let us know ow how you get on!

Friend of mine was over there last year, I do know that he did hire a bike when he was out there. I will try and find out where he hired it tomorrow and get back to you.

I must do a Google Street View of the roads in the area I'll be staying - just to see what the surface is like.
