Best Way to Approach a Former Employer?

    Hi everyone,

While I was in college I completed a six month work placement with a local food company, in their quality control department. Now I'm getting a masters in this area over two years and if possible I'd love to go back to this company over the summer to increase my experience.

I was thinking of emailing my manager while I was there just to see if this might be possible, but I don't know how to phrase it. It's not really a formal application since I know the person, but I don't want to come across as presumptuous or looking for a favour. I was just wondering whether anyone might have any ideas on how best to word the email, because I really can't think of anything.

    Thanks a million :)

Forget email, it's totally unsuitable for this. Pick up the phone and call him/her.
