My brothers pristine Fiat Stilo failed its NCT on its rear suspension bushes.

Anyone any idea what the going rate would be to replace this things? It's the standard hatch, not the estate.

    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for that. I was hoping if someone who'd previously gotten this job done could say what it cost. It looks like it'll be expensive, just how much will determine whether he goes ahead with it or scraps the car. It's borderline economic given the cars age.

Looks like the car will be scrapped. He got a price of €350 labour plus whatever bits are needed.

The hardest part is removing/dropping the axle. Can you not use 2 big sockets as a press to press the bushes out and in/hacksaw the old bushes out and press in? Or can you source another axle?

Why would you scrap a 'pristine' car ! Any replacement car is certainly going to cost more than 350 Euro !!

If you decide to get rid, put ads on donedeal and adverts.ie and see if someone will take it for a few bob. That way you may get something to put towards another car.

Tbh, I'd probably get job done or even try to DIY it to keep costs down, but that's me.

It is pristine and I think around 85K miles on the clock. It's a 2002 car, so with NCT only worth around €7-800 max, no? Subtract the cost of repairs and its worth closer to €400. He'll probably sell it on as is and replace with something newer, or trade in against brand new (scrappage) if he wants to go that way too!

Ordinarily I would be up for DIYing but this particular job is not something I'd want to do at this time of year, nor on a driveway!

It's a awkward job, especially if you don't have a lift or pit.
    Angle grinder most likely needed.

However quote you said seems mad.
As I said, you can get a kit on ebay for around 50 quid, plus 2 to 3 hours labour. If you find some cheaper garage, you might close the whole job in €150.
