I was there a couple of years ago. There are a number of bike hire places. What I found it depended on the shop what was in stock. I emailed at the time to pre arrange but cant find the emails to remember who I booked with.

In terms of routes I just went along the cost. Traffic seemed ok.

Going there myself in a few months on a family holiday and hoping to get out nice and early in the mornings and be back for breakfast, and before it gets too hot.
I presume cycling shoes and gear is all you need to bring, when you hire a bike there do they include a saddlebag with spare tyre and a pump and helmet etc ?

Search for a thread called "Cycling in Albefueira" (I cant post the link)

I second the recommendation for Tomas in Swiftmomemntumsports. com

I usually bring my own helmet, but yes you can rent them in some places.

I only ever bring cycling shoes, 1 jersey and 1 bibshorts (wash them in the shower with me Sean Kelly style and hang them out to dry so they are fine next morning).

Often you need to bring your own pedals also to make sure they fit your cleats - ask them first.

They will give you the spare kit & pump.

I cycle in that part of Portugal a couple of times a year but based in Quinta do Lago which is closer to Faro than Albufeira. I hire from Lisa Bikes and find the service is great - drop off and pick to where you're staying. They may not go as far as Albufeira.
In terms of good places to cycle away from the traffic the important thing is to get inland away from the N125 and A22. The roads along the coast (particularly the N125) are in bits and horribly busy - however the cycling up in the hills is fantastic and well worth the effort! Good surfaces and almost deserted!

Yeah we used them in 2014 and we were staying just outside Lagos, up some bohereen off some little 'L' road (so, awkward to find and a good distance from Faro anyway).
They delivered to the door, right on time...helped with the setup etc. Also picked up from us and we got a 'free day' due to the pickup times.
    Would use them again.
Funny now I found the 125 wasn't too bad, even going through the tight little villages, although for the most part we went inland and up to Monchique (plus it was October so probably a whole lot quieter than other times)
