I forgot to post about this a couple of weeks ago when I saw it but I was at the opening night of Big Maggie in the Gaiety a couple of weeks ago and I really loved it. Despite it being a John B. Keane play, I had never seen or read it and didn't know much about it at all. It was amazing. The set was fantastic and the acting sublime, Aisling O'Sullivan as Maggie really is something special.

For those as clueless as I was going in :pac: the basic plot is that Maggie is a mother of four grown up children who live at home; the play opens with her husband's funeral. She is a strong-minded woman who has her own distinct ideas about how her family life should go with her as the head of the family but she encounters a lot of resistance from her children. How they, and she, react to their new situation is the subject of the play. You can see how when it was first written and performed, it was probably shocking to see such a strong and independent woman on stage but now I think most of the audience were thinknig "good for you" a lot of the time!

It's running until 12 March, I'd definitely recommend seeing it. In fact, if the opportunity comes up, I'd easily go again.

Has anyone else seen it yet, what did you think?

I was at it the other night and loved it. I saw it in the Gaiety when it was there previously and I think Keith has grown into his part more.

I had one niggle though - Maggie was corpsing a bit the night I was there and at one point was fighting back the giggles.

Oh was she really? That's a shame. Hopefully it didn't otherwise ruin the enjoyment. Keith was quite good alright :)
