    Hi,

Looking to upgrade from my giant pr-2 to something new and move the pr-2 to the training bike. Budget is 300 Euro. Any recommendations? Looking for lighter but durable wheels.

    Thanks.
    J

    +1 on this

Consensus seems to be to hang on for Zondas at this price but interested to see what other options are thrown in

I got these a while back. Zondas like Matt Bianco there says. Over the 300 budget but two gatorskins and 2 tubes thrown in.
I notice they're out of stock in shimano hub at the moment though ....

thanks for the opinions, Zonda and the Ultegra were on my list alright though the Ultegra are slightly more appealing due to price. Is there much difference between the two?

I was looking at the Fulcrum quatros, they look nice though not sure I want the deep section rims. I've got fulcrum racing 7s (well had until I wrote the rear wheel off last night).

I should add, i'd like to support a local bike store by getting the wheels in a store , what would i expect to pay for the Zondas? I don't mind paying 30 or so euro over the odds if they include fitting in the price but if we are talking any more than that it's just not feasible for me.

SwimCycleRun are the cheapest online Irish store for Zondas at €329 delivered. I doubt any of your LBS shops can match that however its no harm in asking but in my experience when I was buying Zondas last year and asked in 3 separate LBS near me, the cheapest they could get them for me was €390. I got them for €309 delivered in the new year sale from Ribble.

Fitting them is relatively simple and even if you cant manage it yourself your LBS shouldnt charge too much to do it or if you know anyone with a chain whip and lock ring tool then may do it for you. If your anywhere near letterkenny I'll fit them for you FOC.

Cheers, in Dublin :) ... I've no problem fitting them , it's just the hassle i'm willing to pay for (to some extent :) ) I need to move the 10 speed cassette from my damaged fulcrum 7s to the pr-2s and move the 11speed cassette from the pr-2s to the new wheels.

I need new cables on the bikes, i might see if I can bargain with them on all the work.

Unfortunately my local bike store just quoted me over 550 euro for the Ultegra wheels :( nearly twice the price of the online sellers.

That was my experience too, one of the LBS's quoted me €540 for Zondas, when I pointed out I can get them over €200 cheaper online, he basically said they couldn't possibly match that price even if he tried and he wouldn't blame me for buying online with that saving.

I know we should try and support LBS as much as possible but €200+ price difference isnt something many of us can swallow.

I'm on my second set of Fulcrum Quattros. Happy enough given the price range. They are nice and stiff and reasonably robust.

The rims aren't deep enough to cause major issues and they roll along nicely once you get the speed up.

Seals aren't great. Bee Cycles have had to replace the bearings on the first set and I will probably have to do the second set soon - my fault for using them a lot over the winter.
