You dont say what year yours is, but I know there was a recall on some Hyundai brake switches a while back.

Had our one in for a recall think it was 2 years ago now. Seems to be a weak point.

Not DIY, moved to main forum.

Check with dealer for possible recall.

Had this on our I30 only today!
What I did was slightly bend the bracket that the brake light switch is mounted on, with a pliers. There didn't seem to be any adjustment I could do. It's 100% now.

You need to remove the lower plastic part of the dash to do this, it's straightforward.
Remove fuse box cover from side of dash, and pull off the side trim that the fuse box door was clipped into, it just pulls off.

There are 2 Philips head screws holding the lower dash in which as at the side of the dash under the panel you just pulled off. Remove these

There are 2 more screws visible at the bottom of the lower dash panel. Remove these

Pull panel off, it just unclips

Unplug the wiring look from the dash illumination/heated windscreen/TCS switches, remove the OBD plug from the bottom. Bracket held in with 2 screws.

You should then be able to get to the pedal switch. It's on the top of the pedal itself.
Ever so slightly bend the bracket with a pliers.

Test the brake lights, they must come on even if the pedal is lightly pressed.

I would pop the switches back in before restarting the engine, brake lights will work without engine on anyway.
    15 minute job tops.

    Hope this helps.

Or check if there's a recall...

Thanks for all the suggestions, Colm would it not be easier to adjust the switch by adjusting the nut on it? I think the recall was for newer models.Mine is 2008.

the way ours was the switch was already threaded as far as it would go in the bracket.

    ours is 08 too.

    Final solution
Contacted Hyundai dealer we bought the car from there was a callback for the break switch on our car.
Colm your car might be in the callback and need a new switch .Will hopefully get it replaced next week!!!!
Thanks again to all who provided information and a big thanks to Colm.
    Regards Good motoring
