Just order a replacement tag and have it there if they ask

Remember the first nitrates inspection a few years. About ten were missing one or both tags. Inspector made a big point of missing tags. Only thing that saved me that time was I had replacement tags there ready to stick in whenever I got the chance. Was blessed, it was an unannounced inspection.

Havent looked at the regulations, but in the circumstances do the two tags have to be in different ears?

I was thinking of the two tags on one ear alright... I previously had a cross compliance inspection and am v weary of them ever since wen a man can be on yer land at 9 am an can do wat he wants without any permission is totally wrong to me ....

Order a replacement tag, and the next time you're in the vets get them to write a note that calf number xxxx has a damaged ear and can't be tagged at the moment in that ear

Once you have a letter from your vet your are covered. If the ear is so badly torn that it cannot carry another tag then get it stated in the letter. Your vet will know how to word it.
