My husband and I would like to buy a car (probably used from 2013 or 2014) when we get to Ireland. We will be in temporary accommodation at first and I do not think we can receive mail there. I emailed a few insurance companies and they said we can use the temporary address and then change it when we get a permanent one. Can I get insurance documentation and the tax disc sent to a separate mailing address like a po box through mail boxes uk or poste restante through An Post? Does the motor tax website let you fill something like that in on the online form? If not I suppose we will have to rent a car at first.

As for the buying process I have read that I can put a deposit on a car at the dealer to receive the registration number. Then get the insurance done in time to pay in full and leave with the car and get the tax disc in the mail later. Is this true?

    Thanks for the help!
