Just wondering if anyone knows how long it takes to get from the steps of the plane to the train station in Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam?
The flight is due to land in Amsterdam at 08:40 and the train is leaving at 09:33, have I got enough time??

Generally yes but all it takes is the person ahead of you in the passport control queue to be queried for some time and you could be snookered.

The short answer is it all depends on flight on time (not always a given, probably more likely with Ryanair than Aer Lingus) what gate you arrive in at etc

When's the next train after 0933? Will you have your ticket bought or will you have to buy it when you land?

We have bought the tickets already, its for the Thalys train to Paris.
We are flying with Aer Lingus which land in Terminal 2, I think.

I understand that but I am wondering how long it takes to get from an arrival gate / plane to the train station?

well, it really depends on how many people there are.
There is a self-scan that would be the fastest but since you are coming outside the "schengen" you get extra control anyway, schiphol sucks to arrive at.

I dont know where you want to go, but if you wanted to go to amsterdam you should have taken the intercity.. goes every 15 mins or so and is a lot cheaper then the talys.

if your end-stop is paris, brussel would be a better airport to arrive at

It depends where you land. It is cutting it quite close. Sometimes it has taken over an hour for me to get from the gate to the train station. sometimes it has been 20 minutes.

Also, if you have luggage then you won't make the train.

If you're flying Aer Lingus out of Cork my experience is that the taxi to the terminal alone will take 20 minutes. The Ryanair flights out of Dublin also tends to land at one of the (very) far flung runways.

    Nervous now!
I won't have any luggage at all.
There is no flight to Brussels on the day I am travelling.
Heading over to the Ireland vs Sweden game on 13th June

As a previous poster said there is a big time difference between when you land and by the time the plane actually pulls up to a gate, the taxi time takes forever passing over roads etc..Sorry to add to your stress...Fingers crossed ..

Assuming no delay at passport control and no luggage to collect from gate D28-30 where Aer Lingus/Ryanair use, 20 minutes should get you there without fuss

The timetable for the flight is 1:40 from Dublin but its 65 minutes in the air with an allowance for the runway issue in AMS

Tight but shouldn't be a problem if you don't have to collect luggage

It's a bit of a schlep, as EI flights disembark at the high number D gates (29-31 or thereabouts).

Assuming passport control is quick (optimistic at that time of the morn tbh) it's doable in 20 mins, using the travelators and walking at a brisk pace.

As others have mentioned above though, landing on the Polderbaan runway will add significantly to your taxi time & it can be 20+ minutes plus before you'll reach the stand.

    OP
At a brisk but not fast pace about 15-20 mins with zero obstructions from the gate to the platform.

The arrival time of 08:40 is the time the aircraft is scheduled to arrive at the gate.

Airline timetables reflect block times, not the time it actually lands on the runway.

    Thanks for all the input.
Train ticket is a no-flex so we can't change it anyway.
I'd say we will just try and get there ASAP and hope we make it!!

You'll be fine, when you get to immigration control if theres a crowd at the end of the escalator just walk past them as far to the left as possible .... everyone bunches up at the back and don't realise there are other immigration queues further to the left.

Never takes me more than 10 minutes to get through and I was doing it twice / month.

It's a brisk 20 minutes max for me most weeks I fly in. The biggest potential for delay is delayed take-off in Dublin, or long passport queues. If there are passport queues, keep trying to move to to the leftmost queues as travellers are bought in on the right hand side.

Nobody seems to have mentioned the important factor of sitting up the front of the plane. Either pay extra and buy a seat up the front of the plane or be ready to check in when it opens (30hrs before takeoff) as you will have a better choice.

If you don't manage to get a good seat go to the customer service desk at the airport and plead your case. They may give you a seat in one of the front rows usually reserved for gold circle members.

That's a good point, it's Air Bridge only so exit is only via the front door.
