UFC Rotterdam - 8th May

We've had Vegas & London threads so think we should probably have a Rotterdam thread for anyone thinking of going. Can we try to keep fight discussion to a minimum(or none at all until closer to the event) and use the thread for anyone discussing or questioning anything Rotterdam/Holland related, fight announcements, etc

    Event :- Sunday 8th May
Tickets on sale :- Thurs 24th March
    Where :- Ahoy Arena, Rotterdam

No fights have been announced yet but as you'll see below The Reem says he will headline.

By my estimations the event will start 8pm(local time) on the Sunday evening. For any football fans Feyenoord play in R'dam(about 3km or less) from the Ahoy arena and are playing their last home game of the season that day. Tickets are quite cheap(I got 1 for £18/€24) and can be bought from viagogo.

Amsterdam hotels are expensive that weekend but R'dam hotels are a good bit cheaper. You can get from Schipol airport to A'dam for €5 on the train and A'dam to R'dam is €15, trains run all through the night.

I booked my trip last night. Fly in on the Saturday, spend 2 nights in R'dam then a night in A'dam before having to come home(BOOOOOO) on tuesday

The reem might not be able to headline because he may be in prison :D

    This just happened earlier

Will tickets be hard to come by for this event considering how fast London sold out without a main event being announced?

I would say if you're quick in the presale it should be grand. I wouldn't want to take a chance on the general sale though. The arena holds about 15k I think. A few days after the UFC is on the premier league darts is making its 1st visit to Holland in the same arena and it sold out within about 1 hour!

Better get tickets through fight club presale so. I've flights and accommodation booked for a few weeks already so hopefully I can get my hands on tickets. Good shout on Feyenoord game - looks like we're gonna take that in now as well. Long day of sport!

Looking at Rotterdam on google street maps it looks like a right concrete jungle. Is there any golden mile main street at all?.

yeah long day of sport and drinking or whatever :pac: match KOs at 2:30 so be well over by 5 giving 3 hours for the relatively short(3KMs not that far is it?) walk from stadium to arena and stopping off for some food along the way. I didn't know a lot about Feyenoord fans but went and watched some youtube videos and they are absolutely bonkers! I can't wait to go and experience the atmosphere

I've never been to R'dam before but read up a bit about it last week. From the reviews everyone seems to think its a really nice modern city. It was flattened during WW2 so all the buildings are quite modern and some of them look pretty cool I thought. Apparently a lot of the dutch prefer R'dam over A'dam because its like a city for the locals whereas A'dam is seen as the tourist capital.

Struve vs Big Foot is first confirmed fight for this card. I'd imagine this will be co-main with Reem being the headliner . Both Struve and Big Foot need a win badly with both of them having a lot of losses recently.

Thinking of heading over with a few lads. Whats the transport situation with getting back to Amsterdam after the fight does anyone know ?

Jeremy botter reported Reem will be fighting teammate Arlovski. That would be some fight!

Paully D was saying before that fight was announced by mistake, and then the message deleted soon after, when the event was announced. Happy its the co main and not the main as once feared!

That would be a fun fight :D Lot of people reporting it now as if its a confirmed fight.

I know how good a source this comes from but also read Yan Cabral Vs Reza Madadi is on the card, so watch your handbags lads :pac:

Not got watching his fight yet but seen interviews after and doesn't look like Mousasi took too much punishment. I'm sure all the dutch fighters would love to get on this card so I wonder whos available that could fight him

Born and raised in Rotterdam so if you have any questions about the city........
    Or the country.

Just ask and i ll try to answer.

Im planning on going flights are only 60 quid over,Ive not been to amsterdam so was going to stay there and travel to the fights or is it too much effort travelling to and from Rotterdam?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,862 ✭✭✭✭inforfun

    Easy enough.

Amsterdam Centraal to Rotterdam Centraal by train takes 45 minutes with a normal train or about 30 with the Highspeed.

In Rotterdam you take the metro from Centraal to Zuidplein (Ahoy). Big ass indoor shopping mall and Ahoy is on 5 minutes walk from there.

1 thing..... The metro requires a kind of card which is best compared to a leap card i think.

This is the webpage for the local public transport in Rotterdam
This for organising your trip in country.
Train tickets can bst be bought from ticket machines. Make sure you have a card that works on them, my visa debit doesnt. probably could work but i stil lhave a Dutch bank card so dont really need my visa debit to work.

Credit cards can be hard to use. Dutch dont like the extra costs with them so bare that in mind.

Now if it is worth it.... I dont know.
I hate Amsterdam with a passion as a true Rotterdammer should. So i would definitely not stay in Amsterdam when my main goal was UFC Rotterdam

Also, what time are the fights done?

I once went to "Dfl 100.000 Muay Thai" event in Ahoy which finished at 2 am.
If it ends that late, it might be too much of an effort to get back to Amsterdam, despite there being night buses and trains.

Just wouldnt fancy a 1,5 hour minimun trip at night

    Feyenoord match?

Better get tickets for that sorted. 19 matches sold out in a row now.
Might be cheap those tickets but they are hard to get.

Cheers inforfun! Its always good to have a local to ask.
I've already got my flights, hotels,Feyenoord ticket already sorted but I'll probably be asking closer to time about good places to eat near where I am staying.

I took a video from the unstoppable press conference of the fight announcement. I'll get around to getting it uploaded in the next few days after I hibernate some more

What are the chances of the Feyenoord game getting moved from the Sunday? We are staying in Amsterdam and travelling to Rotterdam the day of the fight (and Feyenoord game) but don't want to buy tickets for the match if it gets changed to the Saturday.

    Slim to none.

It is the last round of the season and that requires all matches to be played at the same day/time.

    Zero!
Last match of the season so it wont be moved + the dutch teams are not money grabbing w***ers like the english teams!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,862 ✭✭✭✭inforfun

Well... Feyenoord - Vitesse was moved from Sunday to Monday last season on the one but last day of the season..... As said, last 2 rounds need to be played all at the same time.

But that was because of a police strike.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,480 ✭✭✭Devastator

Yeah for the last round they'll want every match to KO at same time, date etc

Pure speculation but Neil Seery tweeted the other day that he was starting a diet on Monday. I replied saying it was roughly 8 weeks from diet start to UFC Rotterdam and asked was he preparing for a fight and he liked the post. Now I've read inbetween and invented new lines to read between there but heres hoping he's on the card.

Heads up, tickets on sale this week, tomorrow for fight clubbers!

New fight - Karolina Kowalkiewicz Vs Heather Clark.
From what I remember Clark was on same TUF series as Ais.

Following on from my earlier clutching at straws post, Neil Seery retweeted the following about ticket info :D

Wil do some searching in Dutch if you like.

In case i come up with ridiculousness.... What is the price range normally for tickets?

What am i missing... sale only starts thursday march 24th...

That's what was confusing me also, when you click into that link for Thursdays tickets it changes to Tuesday and you can buy them in the presale then. We managed to get tickets pretty much straight away so happy days!

Well what a FU that is/was

FFS you would think by this stage UFC & ticketmaster would sort themselves out. I couldn't find any working links for the pre sale, everything I seen was pushing me through fight club membership so I ended up paying for FC just to try and make sure I got a ticket.

Seriously, how can ticketmaster not allow you to search by ticket price?:mad: Having to re-search everytime & changing the seat blocks got very annoying

Did u manage to get some in the end? Agreed on ticket price search option . I kept getting cageside seats which I didn't want when I was searching. There was 2 of us trying so the other fella managed to get them in a different section.

yeah I got sorted after some stress & extra money spent. Paid €105 for ticket & $75 for FC. At least we've got tickets though...I would have been raging if I didn't get 1. Same happened to me, try searching for 50 or 70 tickets and told nothing but you can sit cageside for 250! :pac:

€50,€70,€95,€130,€160 & €190 are the price brackets. Mid tier would be €95 -€130 I'd imagine.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,480 ✭✭✭Devastator

here is the seating map which might help explain why I was so pissed off earlier! You can not search for best seat for €x amount, you have to search every individual seating block for tickets, and if none available go back and fill it all out agin with a different block(aa,ab,bb,bc,cc,etc etc etc etc)!!

From looking at few pictures the inside looks like lot of modern oval shaped arenas(looks a lot like the odyssey in Belfast) and probably get a pretty decent view from anywhere in the venue.

Nice hall. Been there many times for concerts, indoor cycling.
But has been renovated "recently" and i havent seen it on the inside after that.

DE is not exactly close. 45/50 meter from the action.

Although.... i have been to nights like these when there happened more outside than in the ring.

Is Gunni doing this camp in SBG or is it all based in Iceland?

I wonder will we see any SBG boys at it. Could be perfect for Amirkhani, Paddy or Ais.

    Hopefully we see Seery regardless

You say that like I'll need binoculars :pac: Although after a day out watching Feyenoord, drinking and whatever else I'll be lucky to see anything :D

Sounds grand to me, I was probably about same distance from octagon at 196 and thought it was perfect. Do you remember if DE was the 1st tier off the floor or an upper tier?
