My boyfriend is currently on disability allowance as he is going through cancer treatment. His is now separated from his wife but when he got his allowance they were still living together. Does anyone know what does he need to supply to social welfare to get his circumstances changed? He is living on his own now and their children are grown up so no maintenance involved.

He just needs to write to disability allowance and tell them that he is now living alone, if, in fact, he is living alone
If he was claiming for his wife then the portion of payment he was getting for her will stop
He should include a Living Alone Increase application form completed in order to get the LAI of €9
Don't forget to put his PPSN and DOB at the top of the letter

She was working so he only qualified for part payment so he will be entitled to an increase rather than a reduction. Thanks for your help

If they require any further evidence of his living alone they will write to him, so if his wife could provide evidence of her new address, for example a copy of a utility bill in her name at the new address, a tenancy agreement, a bank statement, letter from Revenue SW etc, that would be helpful

His ex is living in the home house but he would have revenue letters and hospital appointments to his current address

You are supposed to inform them immediately there is a change of circumstances so he should be prepared for them to ask why he's left it a while.

I see. So it is he who has moved. Write as soon as possible, DA may hand the case to a local Inspector to check out his current circumstances
If his payment stops in the meantime he should apply for SWA while its sorted, but it most likely won't come to that
