Hi just said I'd try this, I'm thinking about restoring a 1 owner Mf 148(fathers tractor from new and want to restore as a surprise gift for him). The tractor is running and operational at present engine gearbox and lift fine, controls eg brake/ clutch pedals worn through, steering breaks and front axle need work, want to do a comprehensive build myself, I am mechanically experienced. Q1 can I find a manual to assist rebuild. Q2 Any ideas of rough costs? Prob will need new cab.. Q3 beat place to get reasonably priced genuine Mf parts, I'm based in Sligo. Thanks in advance!

Q1 lots of manuals available I&T manuals are very good.
Q2 really depends on how much it needs. Lots of new and second hand cabs on done deal. I'm currently doing up an MF205 and expect my parts bill to be around 1500 euro without adding a cab.
Q3 genuine parts from your local dealer, they are probably all much the sames. Good spurious parts can be got online from Agriline, or QTP in mullingar.

Thanks for your reply.. Cab might be able to be restored will need some work, will mainly need to rebuild front axle, steering box, brakes, new pins etc for linkage and hitch, new pedals, seat already good few new parts on it, bonnet full restored already, I really want to keep it original apart from the cab and worn out parts would ideally like to put genuine Mf replacements in.. Where can I order those manuals? Thanks again!

    Tractormanuals.co.uk for the manuals.

For genuine MF parts probably best to use local dealers, they can be great for advice also. Martin's garage in Cavan have a good website Masseyparts.ie

Give the agriline.co.UK/ie website a look it is spurious parts but it could be useful for comparing parts. Also bare in mind many of the genuine MF replacement parts are not the same quality as the original. Agriline also do a nice neat alternator kit which includes all wiring and brackets.

I've seen tractor manuals for sale on ebay (often on a CD/disc format, so cheaper to post).

add the cost sand/bead blasting and a respray too if you want a top class finish or can't do it yourself. tyres can be another big cost if needed.

Hi, have a large Sandblaster myself and will be painting it myself.. I already have bonnet restored was in bad shape but came out like new.. Tyres will be needed it will worry about that at a later date, any good sources for parts? Waiting on a quote back for all genuine MF if possible..

Just on using genuine parts, I did a couple of Fords a few years ago and got oil seals and axle bearings from my local CNH dealer, all came in boxes of different brands (sparex and others). Didn't question it as I was just happy to get the bits to be honest so don't have your heart set on genuine only. If the 148 is more for show than work then the quality of parts not as critical.

Will mainly be for work but still want a high standard of finish.. It's a one owner tractor from new and won't be changing hands for sentimental reasons! Father loves his little Massey so plan on "borrowing" it for a job and doing it, have a Massey trained mechanic who works with us who cut his teeth on these and good relationship with a Massey Dealer we buy off so waiting on prices from them.. Thanks for replies really appreciate it..
