    Hi guys,

My VW Golf 1.9 TDI (2009 MK5) has recently gone over the 100,000 miles mark(UK import in 2012). As its been well looked after and timing belt was done on time I'm just wondering what is the likelihood of her doing this again and more.

Many even most of the motors I've bought already had 100k miles on the clock.
Just from VW stable I've had two passats a polo and a golf. All had in excess of 200k miles when selling. One Passat had 280k miles and an idiot drove into me writing it off, it was still a peach to drive and on original clutch.

100k miles on a well maintained diesel isn't much at all.

If it has a BXE engine code then there's a high probability that it will fail it seems. Just doing some research on a 2008 1.9 TDI Golf at the moment. Low mileage on the model I've viewed but seems the con rod on this engine has a habit of coming loose and destroying the engine.

My brother can testify to this!

Thought I had a lovely car lined up until I found out about this engine problem. Had a mate that it happened to in an Audi. Cost a fortune to repair and quite a dangerous thing to happen as well. He said it's a 1/20 chance of it happening!

It will not fail if the bottom end bearings are changed every so often.

It affects one in twenty apparently, so 5%. I have one friend it's actually happened to.
Spoke to my mechanic about it yesterday. He's heard of it but never come across one and he's worked on a lot of BXE engines.
I guess I'm still thinking of taking a shot at it. It's only got 31K on the clock.

Haven't come across that info before. How often do they need changing?

There is no set time for when they need to be changed. I've seen some cases where they were in bad shape at 75k miles. Personally I'd change them every 50k miles.

WHat would be the cost for something like that?
