Switch Leaf from kph to mph

A UK Leaf has a "Units" menu on the 4-button cluster to the right of the steering wheel, which lets you change the speedometer and the guessometer from kph to mph and back. Mine, being a new Irish Leaf, does not seem to have that option.

Has anyone figured out how to switch between kph and mph on those displays? I know how to switch the satnav screen, but it is the speedometer/guessometer I care about. Is there some hidden secret menu that I need to go through to enable it?

    Thanks.

Why would you want to change it to American units? In Ireland we use the metric system.

I leave my cars on proper units while driving in the UK too. It's their fault for not putting their speed limits in units people can understand. Same reason its their fault bridges keep getting hit by lorries at four times the rate of ours.

They are not American units of measurement, they are the British Imperial measurements. The UK use British Imperial units and thats what they understand. I don't think the people that live in Britain do not understand the posted speed limits. It's up to people who visit Britain (or any other county that uses imperial measurements (usually British Commonwealth countries) to educate themselves the methods to convert from imperial to metric.

If an Irish truck hits a UK bridge and says it was because he didn't understand the numbers, then he should be charged for due negligence. if the driver is not sure of the height, he should not proceed....simples!

With all due respect to those wishing to debate inches and furlongs, please start your own thread on this subject, if you don't mind. :) In the meantime my question stands, can you help me with it?

How do I switch between mph and kph on an Irish Leaf?

I did this for my trip. One problem, it only changed the "guess o'meter" not the speedo.
    Will keep looking

Thanks, but on the MY2016 this does not work. The option is still there, but it only changes the sat nav units, it does not have any impact on either the guessometer or the speedometer, I am afraid.

I have a feeling there is some hidden menu or a service option that would enable the "Units" section of the 4-button cluster to the right of the steering wheel. That is where the UK and US Leaf has the kph/mph option according to the manuals and the reports on speakev.com.

If you find anything, please let me know, and I will report likewise. Thanks!

They use the metric system, both officially and in the majority of colloquial usage. Only metric is taught in schools... same as here.

Even legal speed limiters on trucks in the UK are set in km/h not mph. So are the speed limits on the rail network.

The "reason" given for why the road signs and speed limits haven't been changed is that the UK DoT has been saying it would cost too much to switch (apparently it's going to cost *billions*... funny it only cost Ireland €6 million when we switched in 2005).

I'm irish and I've never learned the imperial system... I don't see the english being too stubborn to switch their road signs as any reason to learn.

The US is now the only country not legally metric or primarily metric in practice (though imperial units are underneath it all BY LAW defined by their metric equivalents since the 1800s - 1950s (i.e. a US yard is 0.9144 meters and has no other definition - http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/PUBS_LIB/FedRegister/FRdoc59-5442.pdf)).

I'm calling BS on the €6m number. Speaking as an accountant, it's very easy to cost things high or low depending on your prejudice.

Also for decades we were putting KM distance signs on roads so it was mainly speed signs that had to change.

In the UK everything is imperial so there's an awful lot more to change.

My understanding is where no alternative display is available , it's not legal to display mph on Irish registered cars after a certain date a few years ago.

Hence you can change a supplemental display , but not the main speedo, which is why no option is provided

Thank God I bought a UK import then. I hate having a km display.

What is annoying me now is that I can't change the units on the Nissan Connect app to miles.

I guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks, km is what's used on all road signs both legal ones and information ones, is it not way more annoying to use obsolete non metric units of measurements

I did try figuring out imperial units for kWh, but I got as far as a foot per kilo foot-pound, things started cancelling out, and I was just left with the car...

    It's a constant hubble

I like it , fools me into thinking I've better range , I mean 160 is always bigger then 100 right :D

Since I switch to litres/100 kilometres and now KWh/kilometre there no going back

" miles " is now a term of speech for things that are " far away " , ( and not small !! )

Since you're in miles , I presume your computing of electricity usage in horsepower-hours !!!! ( or donkey hours , ¼ horsepower units )

Be some bummer for you when overhead variable speed limits in kmph are introduced on the M50 next year.

" sorry officer but I had to use my calculator to convert 44km into miles per hour and I ran into the back of the guy in front of me "

    :D:D

I was born and raised on miles and I do most of my driving in or around the north.

And it's not exactly difficult to convert km to miles when needed. I would just prefer to be given the option to see my range etc on the app in the units of my choice. It's hardly a big ask.

I have a 2014 UK import. Had to figure out how to change from miles to km minutes before the NCT. As mentioned, the main LCD console with the map is independent of the ode meter. To change the ode meter, use the 4 way button to the right of the steering wheel. Top left is Select and top right is Advance to Next Option. Find Units and then select km

The odometer is not required to be in metric units for the NCT (mine is in miles, and can't be changed), but the speedometer is.
