Our landlord has asked us to register our names as the tenant of the property. He also wants us to pay the bills incurred in the last year while we were tenants.

If we register, can he see if the bills have been paid? What access has he got to the account once we register?
    Thanks

    Hi Ladjacket,

    Thanks for your query.

Landlords can contact Irish Water to determine if there is a person, other than themselves, registered as a customer at the property; however, Irish Water will not provide the names or details of those registered.

No, Irish Water cannot disclose any information relating to your account.

We are asking tenants to register with Irish Water to ensure they are billed correctly and receive any relevant allowances. Also, as a tenant, by registering you will be eligible to apply for the 100 euro Water Conservation Grant for 2016, more information on this will be determined in due course.

Households who do not register with Irish Water will receive a default bill for 260 euro per year per dwelling and will not be eligible to apply for the 100 euro water conservation grant.

    I hope this information helps.

    Kind regards,
    Kim
