    hi,

I went into a shop on parnell street to get a role and only had my card, i gave the teller my card and when he asked me to put in my pin there was an extra 35c charge, i asked why that was there and he said its for sales under ten euro that us a card.

I said to him i was almost certain that this was removed with the budget and most shops are no going contactless payments to make it even easier to use your card.

He just shrugged his shoulders and gave me back my card.

Are shops still allow charge for people using their cards?

Because a lot of banks charge a flat fee then a percentage on credit card sales, so the fee charged is the same if you send just a few euro or even just a euro so there goes a chunk of any profit they might have made. I think it's 45 or 50 cents min per transaction for AIB, not sure for other banks.

It's also why a lot of places wont accept a credit card for sales under 10 euros.
I believe the fee does not apply to contactless payments, but not too many places use it yet.

The fee now applies to all transactions including contactless.

The processors have also invented a new fee to the shops although I cannot recall what they call it.

I simply boycott these shops, it's not worth wasting your time with them giving feedback.

Why, for ultra low value transactions, the bank charges exceed any profit margin, or sometimes even the value of the transaction.

So shops should sell to people at a loss because it's more convenient for you? and why would they do such a stupid thing like that?
