    Just saw this

    http://www.stickybottle.com/latest-news/video-eddie-dunbar-in-flat-out-mode-putting-out-huge-watts/

    which says

"Putting out an average of 450 Watts at 56 kilos, we think it’s fair to say Dunbar is ready to race."

Not sure where they got this from but I thought 8 Watts/Kg average for 5:05 minutes is off the scale...

8 w/kg for 5 min. is indeed world class. It's speculated that Wiggins averaged around 440w for the hour record

Article says there was a gale blowing. If he had a decent tailwind and they're using Strava stats without an actual power meter then it's possible it's off by a fair amount.
He's still a hell of a climber though.

briefly spoke with Eddie a while back. i don't know him at all so was being pure cheeky asking but I gave him an average w/kg number from some of the bigger named tour riders and he said he was in or around that - lovely lad, modest out. he'll do well this year and when he comes back to Europe he will be a superstar if Axel does right by him - reckon he's a TJ Van Garderen in the making

Wiggins would have been quite heavy then... for him. 10KG over his TDF weight

Well I agree with Nico...win a pro Tour race first before putting yourself forward as Dan Martin's other man

There is ambition which is all well and good but there is hype and hubris ...

I have read two articles now and I thought the hype was a bit too much yet ....not necessarily coming from Dunbar

BTW... I thought Cycling Ireland picked the Olympic Team

And Roche has represented Ireland well in the past ...hardly on holiday

I also noticed some calling Roche French in their replies ...that is like the English calling the Scots British when it suits them and not when it doesn't

I dont think Dunbar has a hope of the Olympics but to put him down like that was out of line IMHO

It might be doing Eddy a favour. He is clearly a very promising talent and has performed really well in some events. However concentrating on just being a very good bike rider might serve him well, and leave all the other stuff to others.
