Just curious as to what people are paying for TV. I'm currently paying c.€40 per month for the variety package and €23 extra for sports and movies (which seems to roll everytime I go to cancel). I'm just wondering am I mad, fair enough the sports and movies seems reasonable but c.€40 for variety seems a lot. I've no HD or multi room etc.

Webpal have you rang up and threatened to cancel? that doesn't sound like you're currently on a deal. I have only the basic package and I think its about €29 a month but I rang and threatened cancellation and got it for €19 for 9 months in a 12 month contract. Have done this for friends and they've all gotten reductions, especially with sports / movies they should do something for you. I got an email over Christmas offering movies for like €10 a month

How did you manage that? The BB alone would be €40.

Yeah i always ring but I'd usually just cancel the sports and movies rather than the whole lot. I think the basic package is that price but the variety is a few quid more. Maybe because I'm paying that much for the variety package is the reason I get cheap sports and movies.

I rang up and literally just said what's the best deal I can get, it's either you or UPC!

New customer though hence the good deal. But it doesn't increase after 6/12 months which is a steal tbh

I have a 30% deal on the Sky Original bundle in SD for 20.65 for the next 12 months in the middle of january 2016when I got the sky boxed sets and than cancelled days later but I will have the discount

I won't get sky boxed sets again as I use Now TV's entertainment pass for 9euros per month and I can use Now TV's Sky Sport's day pass

I have sky fibre broadband for 40euros per month for the first 12 months until October 2016
I will phone Sky to see I can keep the same price for another year

I really only have sky TV for the 'setanta pack' on sky and I only pay 125euros for it for 12 months as I split the costs with a work colleague that also has Sky Tv

Ftakeith, why do you need to tell people in every thread that you post in what your future plans are for your subscription.

BTW, sky do box sets, not boxed sets.

Paying €46.50 a month for Sky Variety with HD Pack discounted.
That was done without a contract - so i'm free to do what i want. Currently looking at Linux boxes etc... but finding it hard to take the plunge.

Thing is - mostly find that what we watch is on RTE etc, however, the series link is used almost every day.

My Sky account has changed so often over the last few months that I never pay the same amount in consecutive months. But at the moment I have the original pack with sports for €33.50 and just recently added fibre with unlimited anytime calls which sets me back €47.50 but rising to €57.50 in a couple of months.

Why are you paying for Sky if you have nowtv? You don't need an active Sky subscription for Setantasports pack. It can also be viewed online via a standalone subscription

Paying €103 for everything including unlimited broadband. That includes €23 for movies and sports combined, €5 for HD and €7.50 for international calls.

Would obviously like to do better. Would cancelling get me a better deal?

I wonder will sky ever stop charging for HD? I know it must be a massive cash cow for them but surely we're getting to the stage where HD is now the standard.

    Zero.

135 a month - that's TV & Broadband/Phone. Will increase to 148.50 when Sky Q goes in at the end of the month

That's a great price for what you're getting. I'm paying the same for just the variety and hd pack (discounted) - and no broadband.

€0 per month but bought a recording Sky card from adverts for €50 which allows you to use your Sky+ box after cancelling.

Can now record Channel 5, Channel 4 HD, ITV HD, ITV 2-4 and all FTA channels.

Don't miss the other Sky channels at all.

Does €82.00 per month for Variety, HD and movies sound a bit steep ?

Got rid of Sky. I watch FTA mostly and get my sport from Poland.

Why would anybody pay full price when they can get a discount?

Only noticed last week that our Sky has gone from paying €38 this time last year to paying €48 this year - I was livid!! Turns out the special offer himself had got for the HD had expired, then a price increase on top of it. Got it down to €40.50 til the end of the year - that's variety bundle plus HD - the HD is only there for the F1 channel.

0 as well. cancelled last summer and dont miss it at all. Got a card off adverts for €7 and have the English EPG on the box which does fine.
They even rang me a couple of months later and gave me 6 months free with 6 months half price after that, no contract, which I initially took. Swapped the cards back out but the Mrs actually gave out and said she preferred the English EPG and the channels it provided so I rang them back a couple of weeks later and told them just to cancel.

I`recommend anyone to try doing without it and see how they get on. I was amazed by how much of the stuff we watched was FTA stuff. If it doesnt suit they will gladly take you back and if you are patient enough you will most likely get a better deal.

Switch over to SkyQ silver (wait a couple of weeks if you're not on Sky broadband). There's an upfront cost but it will pay for itself over time with need not to have MS boxes.(€248 upfront but €67 per month).

If you want to ride offers stay on Sky+, SkyQ won't be getting offers for at least the next 18 months. (New contract length).

TBH either way I'd ditch movies unless you watch more than 2-3 a week. Just rent what you want from the Sky Store.

RoI had them in December so they'd be breaching their contract terms if they did another one. I'd expect to see another rise come December though.

You can save money to cut Sky TV also

Cancelled sky probably a year back. Charging for HD really got my goat and was ultimately the main reason for cancelling.

I don't think it's possible to buy a TV that is only SD (720P is min now).

I gave them this feedback but seems they prefer to charge for this "extra". No paid online service charges extra for HD.

we all know that it's a voluntary decision whether to subscribe to Sky so I fail to see why you would mention anything about not being forced to do so. Its hardly adding anything constructive to a thread that's about what people are paying. Maybe its your intention to continue with your anti Sky campaign.

People can actually cut their Sky TV package and still receive the same packages cheaply forever but they don't have the courage to do it

just about to cut €7.50 from my bill as I no longer need the international calls option.

Quality of calls on messenger is actually better than via the landline.

There are changes to Sky TV pricing in the UK in June, but the direct link between UK and Irish pricing was cut quite some time ago (though the content of packages remain roughly the same) and there's been no indication of any price changes here for the time being.

Sky have announced that the HD movie channels will come as standard as part of a movie subscription, most likely in response to streaming services where HD is the default option. So, if you don't subscribe to the HD pack, but have movies, you will still get Sky Movies HD.

I'm paying almost €70 per month for Sky with sky sports (no movies). This is also a basic sky box subscription (no sky plus, HD or multiroom). Going by people here I'm feel like I'm being fleeced..any tips for getting this price down? I'm not much good at haggling..

Just off the phone from them. Just basically tell them them you're leaving and that the price you're paying is just too much! If you have been with them for a while, bring up your loyalty aspect.

I have the entertainment package, I think that's what it is called, and I have that now for €24 per month for the next 9 months. With the sports package, it was coming in at €44.

I'd also be requesting a free HD box.

In fairness to the guy who I was dealing with, he said to ring every now and gain and see what other offers they have that may be there to bring things down or to add options for a minimal fee.

Let us know how you get on!!

Was paying €44.50 for variety/HD/Sports but offer ended last month so I got stung for €91 this month.

Debating cancelling altogether (I wouldnt miss the sports/variety or the HD really) and the majority of what gets watched is on Free to Air.

Only issue is not having the series record option...trying to decide if its worth downgrading to the basic package just to be able to record.

€0 per month but bought a recording Sky card from adverts for €50 which allows you to use your Sky+ box after cancelling.

This sounds like it could answer my problems, how would I go about getting one of these? Does it allow you to use series record?

0 per month for the last 4 years. Depends on your taste of course but if you don't want sports or movies a one off payment will give you the main UK free to air channels with hard disk recording and series link built in for €227

I tend to chop and change with different bits and bobs in the Sky package but for the foreseeable future my total monthly bill for tv and fibre bb/calls will be €96 a month.

On the TV front I have the original pack with sports for €33.50 and HD for a fiver making a total of €38.50.
On the BB front I have fibre with Talk Anytime / unlimited calls for €57.50

All in all Im happy enough with that for now anyhow. If there is another price increase this year I think I will pull the pin on the TV sub.
