I am wondering if it's feasible to change from linen car seats to leather seats? For example in Hyundai i40? How much would it cost approximately and does it look like factory finish?

Somewhere around €2,000 should do it. Looks like factory finish - think all Hyundai Leather is fitted after the cars come in to the country.

Nolan Autocare in Bluebell - does a lot of the Hyundai's, but was only taking trade work recently. Derek is back now so might be taking non trade work again.

Autoglaze in Crumlin. They do a lot of work for other manufacturers.

Cartronics in Santry used to do it but not even sure if they are still going. Google is only giving old hits.

    cartronics is gone now.

gerry worked for autostyling. same idea as cartronics. he may have owned it. now works for alba automotive. again they do leather interiors. incidentally they're in santry too.

It might be possible but hardly feasible if you counter in depreciation. Most of that 2 grand will be down the swanny esp in a car like the i40 (no offence).

at €2k might be worth ringing around the breakers north and south and even the UK and see if you can get your hand on a complete interior...

It's never an investment though, you get it because you want it.

I got a leather interior for my Laguna on Ebay UK back in 2006. They delivered it to Ireland too.

    Try breakers and ebay etc.

    These guys are good.
Last time I was there, there were 4 i40's getting heated leather seats fitted and an Audi getting a sunroof. All cheaper for the dealer to get done then before coming into the country (less VRT).

Finish looked to be spot on imo

Got a full leather interior for an avensis before, amazing difference. As above, see what's available in regard to a replacement, rather than retrimming. Only cost me about 500 iirc.

With side airbags and with it never going to look like the original spec it's either buy a car that already has them as standard or else get a replacement sent from a breakers.

Jesus i thought retro fitted sunroofs went out with the 80s, what a way to devalue a car instantly. I would never buy a car with a retro fitted sunroof.

    Really?

I've seen many cars with retrofitted leather and if you didn't know it was retrofitted, you wouldn't know.

There's a lot of cars that come with leather as standard in Ireland, where it's fitted after the cars arrive.

Recently found this guy on Ebay doing leather seat covers for ok money, but I cant say im impressed with his results. They dont look like a great fit, nor are they a factor format (the ass and backs should be white as well as the surround). I've always kept an eye out for this colour combo seats in a breakers, but never any success.

I'd have to disagree with this, I've had Toyota original leather and aftermarket leather fitted to loads of Toyotas and they look exactly the same.

I think the retrimmers would likely remove the original cloth seat covers and the new leather covers would go in their place over the seat frame / foam padding. The leather covers would be (or should be) side airbag compatible, the same as the original cloth covers.

I'd have no issue with a car with retrofitted leather. It would absolutely have to be heated though and ideally use the factory heating switches but I'd imagine that may not always be possible.

I'd steer well clear of anything with a retrofitted sunroof though!

I had my civic tourer done in Nolans 14 months ago. Love the results. Cost about 1850.

Went for heated seats which added about 350 to cost.

I should have probably went for the exec model when buying the car. That would have cost 3k more and gave leather and touchscreen but I didn't like the touchscreen and thought I'd live without leather.

I've now also added a pioneer touchscreen so up at the 3k but I suppose I have the car the way I want it.

I'd say check out the UK for the breakers option.. Just be tricky to get seats that haven't blown airbags etc....

Pricey upgrade but as others have said it's a preference thing.. You aren't doing it to add value to the car.. Id assume it would make the car more desirable at resale time.

    Cheers,
    Mick

    Thanks everyone for the comments.

It looks like I would drop the idea of getting leather seats as it's a 2k expenditure. Moreover it's not going to improve the resale price at the end.

Next time would try to get factory leather seats in executive model.

    Cheers
