    Hi

I'm building an extension to an old cottage at the moment.
I'm considering cladding the outside with a mix of stone cladding and timber cladding. Question is, would I need specific planning permission for the timber cladding ?

    Thanks

depends where the cottage is etc. if it's in an ACA (Architectural Conservation Area) then you'd almost need permission to paint it! if it's a rear extension exempt from planning then you should be fine. Drop your local planning authority a line - they're very good to help and give advice.

Did you get planning permission for the extension...or...is it exempt from planning permission?

Yes I went through the full planning process for the extension.

What does your planning permission say, and/or, what was indicated on your planning drawings (in terms of finishes)?

Normally planning permission conditions for an extension would say something along the lines...'must be built in accordance with the plans/drawings submitted' and/or 'external wall finishes to match the existing'.

If you intend to deviate from what was shown in the original planning drawings, or, provide a finish that does not match the existing, you need to talk to the planners about your options.
