Line checker results for unused line

    Hi,

I think this question was asked recently, but I can't seem to find the post, so sorry for any duplication....

Anyway, currently with Virgin for broadband, 240 package, and experiencing the well documented Netflix issues. Considering my options. Only problem is the phone line in my house hasn't been used for years - I disconnected the old eircom line when UPC became available. I seem to recall I got about 12 meg back in the bad old days (Lucan area btw).

Having checked the line using my address on the eir website, despite being in a fibre area (and the new box being less than 50 metres from my house - and yes I know it might not be direct, but its surely can't be much more, can it?), they're quoting me as being eligible for up-to 15 meg. For 'super fast fibre powered broadband'. The eir checker says "Great news! Your home is eir Fibre enabled"

I'm wondering how accurate can this figure be, given the line has been out of action for years. Do I need to gamble and connect it up in the hope I might get a better speed, or is the figure the website is quoting accurate?.

    TIA.

It may not be connected to that cab at all. If your house is fairly old you may be "direct fed" from the exchange in which case the distance will be longer.

Check the phone number of one of your neighbours.

APQ based on address is just a guess, not a measurement.
Check the phone number of one of your neighbours.

Managed to check some neighbours numbers. Amazingly they are all around 15Mb. Hard to believe when the estate has a cabinet on it but there you go. So much for e fibre.
