** sorry but the title should say "Plain and simple broadband package **

I am currently on Virgin Medias 240mb broadband and phone package costing €45 per month.

I have just been informed that my package will now increase to €50 per month. I am not happy with this and I never even wanted a telephone package anyway. I don't even have a phone connected and I don't want TV packages because Saorview is enough for me.

Is there any other service that provides just broadband without phone or TV packages.

Virgin already look like they will follow the example set by UPC where they will increase prices and provide a bunch of crap in return that I did not ask for or do not need.

I just want a simple broadband package, I do not want TV or extra channels or phone or extra talkime minutes or free calls or extra email addresses / webspace or that horizon free rubbish or any other useless stocking fillers.

Is that too much to ask??

If you have a phone line (even if disconnected), it would be worth checking if it's Fibre enabled.

Vodafone do a broadband-only package "Simply Broadband" for €40/month. While it runs over the phone line, this package does not have any additional line rental charge, let alone a phone or TV service. It has an 18 month contract.

Net1 does a package slightly cheaper (€36/month), but the annual €432 subscription must be paid upfront each year and is also a 2 year contract.

    Sean

What speed is that €40 per month "simply broadband" package?

How much is fiber broadband per month?

I have been with UPC for many years now but I am sick of their constant price increases and stupid packages that I do not want or need.

Their constant attempts to force me to use their crappy equipment as a router instead of just supplying me with a simple modem and using my own router is also a great annoyance for me.

It's as fast as the phone line will handle, so depends how far you are from the exchange or fibre cabinet. The price is fixed, i.e. it's €40/month whether the phone line can only handle a legacy DSL service (like mine 3.5km from the exchange) or right near the 100Mb mark with a fibre cabinet 100 metres away.

If you know the landline number of a neighbour, you can try it on the following page, which should give a rough idea of what you can get:

    http://business.digiweb.ie/linechecker/

It's an unlimited package - 1TB fair use from what I recall going by their fine print.

Check Switcher.ie just put in your location and you will get a list of providers available in your area.
Good deal with SKY ATM, €35 ON 12 months contract

Eir raised their prices recently along with VM, not unlikely we'll see sky and Vodafone fall into line soon enough if it was done on a wholesale level.

Fixed line will continue to go up as long as the irish consumer will grin and bear it. That's life.

@Lazy: the phone is €5/mo or the single item charge is €6/mo, you're just saving a euro by having that service on the account even if you don't use it.

Hi, sorry for jumping in but don't want to start an unnecessary thread. If I switch from Eir to Sky Broadband Unlimited, do I have to contact Eir or will Sky take care of everything. TIA Joe

Get your UAN(Acc number) from the top of your bill and call sky, they'll issue an order to take over the line. Two weeks after the transfer call eir and make sure its shut down on their side just to be safe but it should already be done and you'll get a final bill.
