As ye know I lost my beloved terrierists last year and now I'm about ready to give up the idea of ever not being covered in hair again. I'd be looking to adopt, all going according to plan, in about 6-8 weeks' time.

Ideally I'd like something medium sized and relatively trainable, and a young adult of about 1-3 years. Gender isn't important to me but I occasionally mind my neighbour's dog and he (the dog) prefers females, though he knows I brook no nonsense from him so I don't think it would be much of an issue.

I work full time but said neighbour, who is retired, has volunteered to come in at lunch for a while. The plan would be for me to walk the dog before work for about 45 mins, neighbour to come in at lunch for an hour to let dog into garden/play ball/have belly rubs, and then me to give another walk of about an hour in the evening. I'd love a dog I could train with good recall and who would be able for a good walk (I like to do the Bray-Greystones walk and back), I don't mind giving the odd once over with a brush but I'd prefer not to have to do too much grooming. I have a 5x5 garden with a kennel, but tbh it was hardly ever used because my dogs were indoors.

I'd like to get one dog initially, with a view to adding a second in a year or so. While I have no issues with RB dogs my neighbour and my parents are nervous of them so I'd have to rule out any obvious crosses of them. Ideally I'd live a spaniel, pointer, setter, or a cross of those, but I don't know if my schedule would suit them.

If you can think of any other breeds that might suit, or if you know of a dog who sounds perfect that's in rescue, please let me know by PM. I know I said 6-8 weeks, but if the right dog is out there I'd go earlier. If you're involved in rescue, don't have a dog that would suit, but are sometimes in the D8 area to home check me, let me know too!

    Thanks in advance!

There's a 5yo Springer for rehoming on DoneDeal at the moment. Might suit you?

I will propose a Labrador for you, I am biased because I have one but the level of exercise you propose is about the same as mine and she is perfect for it. Very trainable, obedient but have the little bit of mischief and character I want in a dog too. I would love another but the people in my life disagree so I will have to settle for the one for a while! There don't seem to be many rescues available, or at least there weren't when I was looking but within your timeframe there is sure to be

Well, I went around a few rescues today and wound up falling in love with a 2yo setter cross who I have booked pending a home check. He (yes, a boy. I took my neighbour and her dog along and the two didn't exactly become best buds forever, but also didn't want to tear lumps out each other) pulls like a train but that's nothing a decent front-attach harness and some training won't cure.

So, if anyone would have an old crate that they're not usin that would suit a setter-sized dog let me know!
