Contracts back - but no date for closing

Is this normal? After much chasing on our part the contracts have arrived with our solicitor. We have arranged a survey for later this week and will sign the contracts early next week (all going well) but there is no date for closing. It is so frustrating. We are FTB and can't order any furniture. At this stage the house will be furnitureless for a few weeks as every piece of furniture seems to have a lead time of 5 weeks.

We were meant to close at the end of Feb. Frustrated and stressed beyond belief.

Before survey and all this other stuff, yes it is not unusual to not have a closing date yet as this will most likely depend on what comes up during surveyor and mapping etc. as well as any other 'snags'. Closing date can be agreed and amended without the need for more signing.

In terms of buying furniture etc. I'll advise you this. Do not, until you have the keys in your hand, buy furniture for a house you do not own yet, even with a closing date, these can slip for any number of reasons, or the thing could even fall through.

Even if you have to sit on a foldable picnic chair eating off a cardboard box while you wait, the problems this could cause are not worth it.

you wont get a closing date until all contracts are signed and exchanged and im sure you wont be signing any contracts until your survey is carried out.

You haven't had your survey done yet but you've been chasing the seller for signed contracts?
Get your survey done, then sign your contracts if everything is fine, then agree a closing date that is agreeable to both parties.
Have you organised insurance, life assurance, completed the paperwork for your mortgage? Work on getting everything ready & good to go first.

OP, delays are par for the course in Irish property transactions. I was supposed to close on Spetember 7th (suggested date by vendor when they first sent documents over to my solicitor), didnt close until October 29th.

Nothing drastic happened, just everything takes ages so there is no point winding yourself up about it.
