My computer has been sick and is at the PC doctor! :pac:
Picking it up tomorrow and they want me to purchase anti-virus software.
Would cost EUR70 and I am told free options are just or almost as good.

Please advise - is Avast free for Windows 7 a safe and good option? :)

Avast or Avira look to be good choices, use Avast myself at home.

No need to pay. Use Avast Free!

If it's Windows 10, I would just let Windows Defender deal with security. Using a secure browser and some common sense and you'll be fine.

That's a rip off. So much profit to be made on those.

Avast and Malwarebytes are both excellent and free!

Bitdefender works well for me.. they have a free version or paid options and there's plenty of offers/discount codes available around too.

Thats probably the best advice. We sell AVG at work and its shocking. I personally use Panda free. Its very light and doesnt slow down the pc. Also alot of people recommend Avast.

Just to elaborate a little - I'd rather have ten trojans on my laptop than have McAfee. So if you end up buying a new machine that has McAfee preinstalled, get rid of it! Terrible awful program.

Thanks for the heads up. I cant remember how I came to use McAfee, but at the time, I must have read good things about it.

I started using Panda, its very light and uses Tiny resources. AVG was hogging my computer and slowing it down to a crawl.
