Going to make full use of the grants available so i'm looking at all options

    - does this work with baled silage ( i reckon you still have to agitate)

    - is it cost effective v agitating by a contractor over a long term

    - is there a loss of N or is this a myth

any help on the above would be great

There's one in kildalton college and i think they said it's around €5-7 a day to run it. There's a loss of N as the amminium gas given off is volatilised N but I'm not sure of the amount

Does not work with bales. If gets into tank it won't mix

    Suits deep tanks

Around 2000 per year???. Am interested in the system myself but that is dear. Always reckoned lads were talking crap when they talk about diesel savings. As you are replacing one energy with another. But never taught it would cost 5-7 a day.

I thought that it was fairly pricy myself. It comes a few hours during the day from when the cattle go in until the tank is emptied

I'd suppose that 2000 figure could be high as you wouldn't have it running all year maybe 4 or 5 months if you could get tanks empty in spring with umbilical system.
So 150 days x 5 would be 750 and if you could run at night rate it might cut a bit more off.

From what I was told most keep them going all year. You have to leave a foot in the bottom of the tank. But don't know much about the system.

How much agitating would a contractor do for 750 though. Then pay for spreading after that. it sounds like a dear system unless it's a huge tank that's hard agitated.

    Around 15 hours
It would depend on the size of the tank
I don't know too much about the system or the size of the shed tank at the college
