What's involved in change of ownership

For some reason as things have worked out over the years, I am the owner of my husband's car and he is the owner of mine. As we are both named drivers on each other's insurance policies, it has not caused any problems really. However, he is hoping to buy an EV in the near future and with all the associated ESB work etc. we were thinking maybe now would be a good time to sort it out. He's also going to scrap his (my) car.

Can anyone tell me what is involved and is there a cost?

Also, would there be any implications for insurance costs or is that something only insurance company can tell me? We are both 40s, low risk professions, no convictions, no points, nothing at all untoward ever (touch wood!), and our other car is a big 2.5L gas guzzler but old.

There is no charge for changing the registered owner of a car. All you both have to do is fill out the change of ownership section on the back of the car's log book (vehicle registration certificate) and then post them off to the address in Shannon listed on there. Then in a week or two they will issue new log books to the new owners.
