Removing rust from a roof rack

    Roof rack has areas of rust that i want to get dealt with now before it gets any worse, can anyone recommend a product for treating/covering etc the rust, i see krust but hammerite seems to do the job but just thought id try on here if anyone knew of any better solution

    Yes I've used Krust, results were good, however you would need to remove the rack from the car I would think as I would be worried it would damage the paintwork of the car.

    Remove all of the rust and apply a rust resistant undercoat(zinc primer) then apply a top coat. This should keep the rust at bay for a long time, far longer than hammerite paint. Don't apply kurust, this will only function as a barrier between the rust resistant undercoat and the bare metal, it needs to be in direct contact with the metal for it to be effective.

    When you say topcoat is there any certain on best to use?

    Is rack chromed? Depends on how bad rust is but you can start with just Coke and a rag.

    Remove rack from car in any case.
